Guest marcosscriven Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Hi I'd like to backup the SMS messages in my SENT folder before doing the decertification update, which requires a hard reset. I know I can keep stuff from the INBOX from the IPSMMAPI folder. The solutions I've seen to this all seem to require other applications, such as explorer, which I can't install before doing the decert! I'd like to keep the message for sentimental value... Marcos
Guest fraser Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Forward it to yourself as an e-mail and keep it on your PC?
Guest marcosscriven Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Thanks for the idea, but... I'd like to do that with loads of messages!
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Why do you need an explorer on the phone? Can you not rename the VOL files using activesync?
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 rename cemail.vol to cemail.vol2 mxip_initdb.vol to mxip_initdb.vol2 mxip_lang.vol to mxip_lang.vol2 using activesync then restart. then copy the renamed files out to pc and you should have them backed up. Obviously you have to rename them back to the original name. Also make a copy of the MAPI folder if not emty. Although i haven't tried this, this seems to be the method people are using. Try at your own risk! when you put the files back on the phone after your decert. rename the 3 files on the phone again by putting 2 at the end, then copy the ones on your pc to the phone. restart phone and you should have your sms's back. now you can delete then renamed files off the phone
