.tmp files - safe to delete?

Hi folks,

I have been trying to keep up to date today with the many updates of pacman as they have been released (Brilliant game, thanks).

I have now downloaded version 5 but am unable to delete version 4 from the spv.

I remembered previous advice, on installing software problems, on going to ipsm/windows/appmgr/install and deleting all files there and confirmed this with a search.

My problem is that I have numerous files in appmgr but none in install folder. :?

I have about 30 .tmp files and 4 .dll files. All have titles relating to apps or skins I have loaded on my spv. :?

I am assuming that .tmp files are temporary files and that they can be safely deleted.

Can someone please confirm that all these files, including the .dll ones, can be safely deleted.

Thanks in advance,

davy.

When you install programs from cab files or exe from pc(installer files), files are kept in appmgr about them so the can be undeleted. If u delete those, you might not be able to remove the programs from "remove programs" in settings. Failed cab installations are kept in the folder install, they can be deleted once installed successfully. Pacman didn't come with an installer i don't think(mine didn't). So just overwrite version 4 with 5 and should be ok.

thanks for that vin.problem now solved.

am I right in assuming that if I delete these .tmp files that I can later delete apps/skins through all explorer.

If you delete the tmp files then you can't remove the program from the remove programs in settings. This is the best way to remove as there may be registry entries which have to be removed which were made when installing the app. But you can delete the program from explorer even if these tmp files are deleted, just find the program exe files on the phone and delete it along with it's shortcut in the start menu folder. But as i said, this method may leave registry entries on the phone.

No problem. Also if you delete the temps, the option for removing the program in 'remove programs' will still exist but won't actually work because you'd have deleted the tmp! So you will end up with a massive program list for uninstallation but none will work!

the skins and some apps are not listed in the add/remove programs list.

to be on safe side I have just deleted the .tmp files which do not relate to anything listed in add/remove.

thanks again,

davy.

All apps should be in the remove programs list, shouldn't they? But even if they aren't, if you go into program files and delete the main file, that frees most of the memory taken up by the program.

I don't think that's a good idea yatpeak. That could leave all sorts of orphaned files and registry entries on the phone. Would you do the same to remove a progam from a M$ Windows machine? I think not :)
