Deleted contacts work number but still shows when cal'd

One of my contacts had 3 numbers stored for him (work, home and mobile). I deleted the work number from this contact but when he calls me from that number it still shows his name as the contact ringing me!! Now while this is not a major problem i would still like to know how the phone can link this name and number together as its no longer listed for him!!! Any ideas anyone??

Sorry it's not a definite answer, but it may have something to do with Outlook. If you delete a contact in outlook it sometimes retains the information I think it's a backup thing. Not sure whether it's applicable - or you've sync'd the phone - but might be a place to start looking

I can, I deleted my friends home number and it still showed up. I went into contacts then edit and deleted them from there.
