HELP!! I have been trying to unlock my phone for weeks! I have followed all instructions to the letter, I have searched this site and others repeatedly for extra tipsetc., I have downloaded and run both versions of the app decert program.

On my last attempts with V2 of the decerter program, when I reconnected the SPV to the cradle after hard resetting, my PC says USB device not recognised, and active sync will not work unless I remove the phone and set it in the cradle again.

Anybody got any ideas?!?

And before anyone gives off about newbies doing searches - I have... lots...

That should not happen here in this section of the site.

and if you are running V2 of Will's app then you have done a search.

Ok now to make things easier for people, have you have updated your phone, if so which version do you have?

also after hard resetting are you waiting for a few seconds after the blue

screen to appears before you place the phone back in the cradle?

as i'm not sure why if your cradle works fine when you start then

suddenly plays up when you replace the phone back in?

I'm having the same problem but mine if you leave it in the cradle it does sync but to late for Will's program to work. Follow the process and leave the phone in the cradle for a while even if it looks like it is fully booted let it sit for like 10 minutes and see if it sync's then.

Thanks for getting back to me!

I have the new Orange update running(not sure which version, but it was the most recent update- I did have problems installing it initially but it seems to have been working fine for a few eeks now.

I didn't wait for the blue screen, but put the phone into the cradle just after the orange screen (thats what it says to do in the instructions for the V2 program.)

I opened an activesync session, left the window open at the windows folder containing the oem file...

I'll try again wating for the blue screen.

With the V2 program, does it still ask you to copy over the original file?

I am a total amateur - so it's probably something I'm doing wrong!

I don't want to speak too soon - but I think it worked this time!!

I have installed notbad.exe - the notepad thing.

Will try a few more uncertified apps- but it looks good so far.

Don't know why it worked this time- only difference was I waited for the blue screen to come up.. didn't have sim lock on?!

Anyway, I think it's all good now so THANKS you guys, this has been bugging me ever since I got this phone. I think the people at Orange made a big misjudgement of the users of their phone in putting this certification on, and I feel an inner warmth from hacking their security and in a small way, sticking two fingers up at 'em!!

I am on my way out in a while to make a sizeable donation to the Stop the War campaign.

There is one thing I'm having a problem with now- I have downloaded the smartris.cab file - but it comes onto my desktop in a winzip format (still with .cab extension) - and when I extract that, I get a setup.xml file, and some files with like .001 extensions.

How do I install these?

simplest way is to paste the .cab file to the spv (put it on the storage card). (using activesync)

Then using smartexplorer on the spv, simply run it.

(or you can create a shortcut to the cab file and place it int the IPSM/Windows/Start Menu and click it via the program menu on the phone.) again using activesync

Put the .cab file on the phone and open it and it'll start the installer. Winzip knows how to read it, but you don't need to extract it.

You can either put it anywhere on the phone and use an explorer to open it or put it in the Start Menu and then run it from there.

Nice!

Worked a treat!

Sorry to be a pain- 1 more question. If I have to hard reset the phone again, will I need to do the decert again?

Posted

Yes, yes, yes and yes. Gather you've been having site problems today as well?
