Guest drblow Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Hello again! I have just discovered that I cannot open a new message in my inbox. Clicking both the soft key (new) or menu/new message both result in nothing happening on the screen at all. I did the software decert today, and successfully unlocked the phone - would this be a bug associated with that?! I also had an answerphone icon stuck on my screen, and phoned orange help, who reset it. Would it be anything to do with that? I have phoned orange help again about this sms problem, and they sent me a sim update, which had no effect. Any clues? I'm a bit stumped with no way of sending messages. Cheers.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Do you mean creating a new message or reading a newly recieved message?
Guest drblow Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 creating a new message - when I hit the button for new message nothing happens at all.
Guest Hax Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 You've probably run out of storage space - I've had this and found that deleting some files from the internal "flasH" storage fixed the problem. Have a look at how much you've got free - I only had 0.1MB at the time! HTH, Hax
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 OK? How do you access the flash memory? I have installed quite a few things on the phone, but theonlyway Iknow of seeing how much space is left is when you install an app and it asks if you want it on the phone or storage card. I'm pretty sure at the last count it said I had about 6000bkb left on the phone. Do I need another program to see how much space I have? And if so, where can I get it? Please help - am getting a bit confused about this one!
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Em... Ok, I suppose everybody else has gone to bed,and I'm still up tearing my hair out over this phone!! :? I installed taskmanager app - and it says my IPSM folder has 5.93 mb of 7.5 - all the other parts of storage have less than half in each. I have removed all excessively large apps from my phone (had doom installed but it took up most of my phone memory - I know, I need a bigger card). All thats left on it now is torch, notbad, taskmanager, smstools - all tiny programs. When installing taskmanager, the phone said 6000k ish storage on phone, and 1800 ish on card. STILL NO MESSAGE EDITOR!!!! Is something up there trying to tell me I should just be happy with the SPV that Orange want me to have, and stop mucking about with it so much?!?! Oh yeah, and I just discovered that my GPRS will not connect to anything! It says 'unable to place call' for every gprs function (email, internet, orangebackup). HA!HA! I cannot allow it to defeat me!!!! (although, obviously I need some back up here!) Eh... HELP!
Guest pisquee Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I found that i was having a lot of problems with not being able to answer calls, send text messages, connect to GPRS - I had never deleted any of my sent or recieved sms ... i deleted some and my problems went away til it filled up again. A few days ago I decerted my phone, and therefore wiped all the messages ... my phone is now running fine.
Guest Bazz Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Obvious one this, but you might have run out of running memory - the phone ain't always too hot about giving it up again. You try turning the phone off and on again?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 There has also been problems reported with creating and sending SMS after decerting. You might be looking at another hard reset i'm afraid... :/
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 After a few hours of restless sleep - I'm back on the case again! Have removed all excess programs - memory seems to be OK. Taskmanager tells me I have over half memory free in all sections. If nobody has any bright ideas today I suppose I'll have to try hard reset! Phoned Orange helpline, but they know less than me!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Like i say, some people have had similar problems with SMS post-decert....
Guest Bazz Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Yeah it usually is because you haven't editted the XML properly (deleted something you shouldn't have, or added something in twice), so don't use the same XML file if you're going to try it again - start everything from scratch.
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 OK - have admitted defeat and hard reset. Of course, everything seems to work fine now! I did the decert with V2 of the program, so I don't know how xml could have been wrong. Oh well, I'll try decert again later & let youse know if it worked, eh?? Thanks a million for all help anyway! Where would we be without ye! Cheers BLOW.
Guest the.dude Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I'm having exactly the same problem. Decerted yesterday using the DecertV2 program. Everything else seems to be fine except text messaging - getting the same problems as you have described. Would be really great to get to the bottom of this without another Reset, If anyone has any ideas, please post.
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Dont think it's gonna happen there Dude! If these guys don't have a definitive answer I don't think anybody does!! Anyway, I did a reset and it fixed the problem. So its back to decert for me tonight!
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Excellent! ;) Got home, wiped all trace of the edited xml files - did another hard reset & decert V2, and all seem good this time. That decert program is a small work of genius! Well, I say fixed everything ... the SMS problem isn't happening :) , but I still have no GPRS connection. I've reset all DNS numbers, I got a sim update from orange with GPRS settings - still says 'unable to place call'. Any ideas? Oh, and by the way - after all that bother with the first decert, I'm a bit paranoid about installing apps incase that had anything to do with the SMS problem. Is this just mindless paranoia?
Guest Vector Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Install all the apps you want. :) Your problem was that part of the .provxml file was missing. Happy installing ;)
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 NICE!!!!!!!!!!!! 8) Cheers! Nobody any ideas about the gprs thing?
Guest Vector Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 You may need GPRS reactivated by O if you have had a sim update  :?:
Guest drblow Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 According to orange, all my settings are correct, and my gprs is active. You know what they are like - they don't anything more than what it says in the manual. I was messing with a few things, and remembered looking at the modem link in accessories. I went back to that and made sure it was deactivated. Now internet explorer says 'unable to connect. verify network coverage...' which at least is a stage ahead of 'unable to place call'. But still no gprs connection. ???????????????????????????????????????????
Guest the.dude Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Just had another go at decert and seems to have worked this time. My Internet connection wasn't working either but power cycling the phone seems to have done the trick. One thing I am curious about though - checking the mxip_oem10 file on the phone and the security settings read as though they were unchanged however I am able to run uncert software, any thoughts ?
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 Thats fine. the hacked files are in the rom now. The files look like they haven't been touched because they get replaced on reboot each time. Dont worry about this however as long as you can run the cool apps!
Guest EXORCIST Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 I also have the same problem and also have the problem of having two of every folder in my message folder (inbox, inbox, outbox, outbox, etc) and camera driver problems. I also have used the v2 de-cert tool which seemed a piece of **** except these problems. I have hard reset and every thing is fine. Wait for the alpha version of v2?
Guest drblow Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 It's up to you m8! I did hard reset & it fixed all problems except the gprs - which nobody seems to know about. I have since done the V2 decert again with no problems. Phone now OK except gprs thing - which it seems unlikely to have been related to the decert, as the hard reset did not fix it, and all settings have been returned to the right thing. I think the V2 decert program is the dogs bollox!
