HELP NEEDED FOR SPV

hi there just a question, i have been brought, by my mum and dad and SPv for xmas,

cant have it until xmas day, and on reading through this forum i see that there are a fair few bugs etc with the fone. has anyone got any does or donts before i get let looase on the SPV on xmas day??

any little things would be really appreciated

Before I start... It took me a week (some long nights spent on this forum) to get to grips with the phone, so don't expect you'l be enjoying all its features straight away. Right then...

If you can be bothered, have a look at Custimisation section. The HomeScreen layout makes a lot difference with this phone, so familiarise yourself with:

- XML files

- See sticky topics in Cusumisation (by Chris B. - he's a legend)

- See bugs section. You will know what things will upset you on that lovely xmas night.

- Generally go through this forum and read things that sound appealing.

- You will need to transfer all your contacts from old SIM (if you have one), but unless it's Orange SIM - you're buggered. Go see orange bout that. Or, best of all, if you have Outlook (not express) on your PC, set it up and sort out your contacts! Make sure you use international format numbers for MOBILES ie +44 7890 xxxx.

(!!) Make sure Orange activates GPRS and MMS for you. To do this you need to call them and ask for these to be activated on your account. GPRS takes up to 24h to be activated. You need to be authorised on that account. Otherwise you'l end up with no GPRS&MMS for xMas.

http://www.smartphony.org - in french, but has plenty of backgrounds for HomeScreen. Don't go mad, you'l hardly be able to use many. Make sure you choose the brighter ones, since most default screen layouts use Black font. So you won't be able to see the text. Also, the smaller the files are, the faster your phone will be (especially on home screen loading). Monotonous screens are the best - ie textures. I find real pictures of people and stuff being very crap on home screen

And hey, you'l need more than 8MB memory in ur phone if you wanna listen to music and stuff. So go out there and buy a memory card. Actually, in these posts you can find places that do them cheaply.

and DON'T PANIC if things go wrong. Go to MoDaCo (thanks Paul!!) and you'l find your solution...

thanks very much for that, i here that if u change the homescreen or sumthing then the general performance of the phone is increased?? how wud i go about doing this?????? wot to change it to? any other solutions on making the phone faster

Changing the picture doesnt speed the phone up, but changing what and how things are displayed on the phone you can speed it up!

The SPV seems to speed up if you :-

Turn Keypad control to "None" in PROGRAMS->SETTINGS->SOUNDS

Turn System sound volume to "Off" in PROGRAMS->PROFILES->NORMAL PROFILE

Turn Multipress time out to 1/2 second in PROGRAMS->SETTINGS->ACCESSIBILITY

Oh, almost forgot

Have a look at microsoft site for Smartphone and Orange SPV site.

Don't remember addresses for them, but surely it's somewhere in the forum. (just search for microsoft.com or something)

And.. remove all navigation sounds and keypad sounds, only leave on important ones like Ringtone, SMS etc.

If you want your alarm to work properly goto customisation section, there;s an alarm toipic there. Download decent alarm sounds. Set alarm ring type (in profiles) to 'Increasing' or it will not loop (only play once).

anyone help me with this prolem i am havuing, i am trying to sign into msn messenger , but my username contains an underscore character (_) how do i get this??? i cant seem to find it on the keypad???

hold down the # key and you will get another menu of lots of symbols
