Guest amonzo Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003  Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a the software flash for a Tanager. When I boot the Tanager up it does not go beyond the 'Orange' welcome screen. I have tried loading the UK Orange update for the SPV, but still no joy! I have been pointed to this URL to get the flash software, but the link does not exist: http://www.smart.com.ph/smart/SAP_137.zip Can someone help me, I have a Tanager that I can't use! Thanks

I take it diagnostics screen still times out to the Canary Screen ? At the bottom of the canary screen it should say SERIAL which changes to USB when the phone is inserted into the cradle. If the USB is still detecting the phone then try and run the software update from the canary screen.
Guest amonzo Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Thanks for responding! Yes i can see the orange screen and it does detect the USB. I managed to run the Orange update, and it completed 100%, but the phone still doesnt power up. I beginning to think I need the 'master' installation (ie what the manufacturers load on to the device before it is shipped!) :)
Guest martin Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Yes i can see the orange screen and it does detect the USB. I managed to run the Orange update, and it completed 100%, but the phone still doesnt power up. What do you mean by doesn't power up ? When the phone first boots up after a software update, it can take up to 10 minutes to re-build the phone. How long did you leave it ?
Guest amonzo Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 What i mean is that the phone stays at the 'Orange screen' and even after 10 minutes is still at the same place. I also ran the Smart Phone update from the following site: http://www.smart.com.ph/SMART/Products/Sma...P_downloads.htm This does not install (unllike the orange update) on the phone and I get an error stating 'phone identification unknown. I also managed to load IPSM and wince on the phone via the orange supplied smartcard - so now can can see the option to 'erase IPSM'. However, this still does not work!
Guest Mikey_Likes_It Posted July 11, 2003 Report Posted July 11, 2003 I am actually having the same exact problem! I have a Smart branded phone, and while trying to unlock, I put a version of Orange's software on. I was able to unlock, but I wasn't getting prompted for a sim code. Now I can't even put Smart's software back on! I am getting an invalid vendor ID, and cannot install. How can I erase Orange software and put back? Help! Thanks Mike
Guest Gorskar Posted July 11, 2003 Report Posted July 11, 2003 Those who did the Denmark Update Now - for you naughty people who did that Denmark update on UK-spec SPV's earlier this year. Tut tut.. :) The nice new UK update doesn't appear to work does it ? Well, luckily Chris (CJSNet) has come to your rescue! ;) Here's his instructions on how to get that UK update. Big thanks to him! Don't forget to backup at least the IPSM first. Try this: 1) Attempt the update once. This will place a file in your SPV's Windows folder called DeviceData.txt 2) Close Setup when it fails and copy DeviceData.txt to your PC 3) Edit "DeviceData.txt" using Notepad and replace just the text ORG_DK with the text ORG_UK (you can leave the version number as is) 4) Set DeviceData.txt as "Read Only" by right-clicking and choosing "Properties" - IMPORTANT! 5) Copy it back to the SPV's Windows folder and agree to overwrite the old file Now run the update Setup again and it should be accepted. This is because the phone is unable to overwrite the DeviceData.txt file due to its read only status, and so it skips that step and just reads it. It then sees you have a ORG_UK phone, not DK (DenmarK), 'cause you tricked it you crafty bugger. I accept no responsibility for anyone trying the above - but it worked for me. You may have a minor issue in that the language settings are a bit mangled - the only way around this is to go to either try the "fix" instructions here or visit your local Orange shop and get the OS flashed. Wehay! :D Thanks Chris!!!! I'd imagine you need to do this same trick but change the ORG_UK to ORG_PL or whatever is right for the Phillipines. Of course this is just guessing now...
Guest Mikey_Likes_It Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 I'm not finding that txt file!!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 You're looking in Windows for it (not IPSMWindows)? Have you tried running the SMART updater from the bootloader? Boot it into the Canary tri-colour screen, then run the update...
