Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 Has anyone played with this yet? What are the optimum settings? The tool you need to do this is Windows Media Encoder 7 (a Microsoft freebie!) You can get it at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...wm7/encoder.asp P
Guest mr_tim Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 i've tried encoding some clips at 52kbps and it just stutters. has anyone got some example clips to try that are a little lower in quality than the chemical bros?
Guest alanclose Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 These are the best settings for me so far. single Channel ISDN Sound Windows Media Audio 9 10kbps / 11 mhz video Windows Media Video V7 160 x 120 Frame rate 10 Key frames 8 Quality 0 So far has played back a 2.30 video clip with good image quality and no pauses
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 WMA9 works? That's suprising? P
Guest alanclose Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 WMA9 works? That's suprising? P The Ver 9 media encoder doesn't but the settings above definately work. View the properties on the chemical brothers clips - I used these as a starting point
Guest dodgybob Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 The Ver 9 media encoder Doesnt the installation of WMP 9 erase the WMP 7 Audio/Video Codecs for encoding! Thats what ive found... So the only way for me is to delete it and install WMP 7! Bummer
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 Doh! Might have to have a go at encoding some of those Friends Series 9 DivX files.... P

Guest kmon Posted December 4, 2002 Report Posted December 4, 2002 i have dowloaded the new version 9 and yes if you encode a file with codec V9.0 it will not play (because your phone does not yet have the new codec i guess) BUT on the new window encoder if you goto properties you can select any of the older codecs back to version 7 if you wish.. Paul wrote: WMA9 works? That's suprising? Paul, have you got a file to play on your phone with the NEW codec V9.0 or have you just converted a file with the new encoder????
Guest dearsina Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 If you set your audio to WMA9 in WM Encoder, it will play back on your SPV. I don' know why or how, but it works quite dandy. It even says "Audio Codec: Windows Media Audio 9" in properties on the phone. But encoding the video in v9 doesn't work. So I'm guessing that the v9 codec for audio hasn't actually changed any since v8... Quick tip for encoding video: use Variable Bit Rate, it will dramatically improve the video quality without jeopardizing smooth playback and filesize. sina
Guest Rob.P Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 After you install encoder 9 you can re-install the earlier codecs, they are available as a download from the Windowsmedia section on microsoft.com. I was playing a couple of episodes of Futurama on the train with the above settings, worked a treat until we went into a tunnel then it staggered cause it was looking for a network.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 12, 2006 Report Posted February 12, 2006 Sure, just attach them to your post :) P
