Guest Spine Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Hi everyone, I was noticing that I had a few files on my smartphone under the /windows directory that probably don't belong on the smartphone and files that I never put there (ie they are on flash rom) files like: 11select.gif arrow1.gif arrow2.gif bd10263_.gif buy.htm ---> ordering pizza web form for tratorria complete.gif --> looks like file to do with IR transfer on PPC2000 complete.gid --> excact same type and font for IR transfer PPC2000 confirm.htm --> confirming order from tratorria pizza??? dentistdefault.gif -> screen shot of a dentist appointment from PPC200x genevamap.gif --> who knows goweb.gif ir.gif -> used on PPC infrared program location.htm -> more to do with pizza order locator.htm -> restaurant search result map.htm -> uses genevamap.gif menucut1.gif menucut2.gif menupaste1.gif menupaste2.gif ---> these last 4 files are used in the PPC start up tutorial to tech you how to tap-and-hold with stylus to get popup menus mint.jpg -> new background? myinfo.gif -> header from ppc2000 owner information screen order.htm -> order outlining pizza order at tratorria popuphead.gif -> more PPC stuff signpost.gif -> looks liike something from pocket streets smsmsg1.txt -> test sms smsmsg2.txt -> test sms from someone at ms stylus1.gif stylus2.gif stylus3.gif stylushead.gif ---> more files teaching you how to use the stylus :) syncall.gif talk.jpg -> looks like something with the orange font tdybnr.gif -> today screen banner from PPC2000 tdydate.gif -> another banner from today screen PPC2000 touchhead.gif -> background used for the "align screen" process in PPC2000 trattoria.htm -> information for a swiss restaurant tzhead.gif -> image used also in owner information on PPC2000 WCElogo1.gif -> new welcomehead.gif -> also used in PPC2000 worldphone.gif -> Does anyone else have these files on their device? I am using Swiss 1.50 Firmware. My question is though, how much space do these files take up and how many more dlls and executables are lurking around on the phones that would never be used on the SPV (like stylus for now) etc. It also makes me think that the smartphone is based on the PPC2000 build and not the PPC2002 build. Any comments? Mike
Guest davy Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Been mentioned a few times before Mike. It appears they are files left behind by the developers/programers. davy.
Guest jhew Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Yeah I've mentioned this one b4. The really funny thing is that if u check out the html files, it looks like the developer was trying to order a pizza! :)
Guest Spine Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 yeah I am just wondering know how to get rid of these files. Since I am in Canada, I also have no need for the orange utilities, and I don't think MMS is very useful to me, so I was wondering how much space all this would save if I could delete it? This might also tie in with someone else on here that is trying to build their own rom image. Mike
Guest jhew Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 well the only way to find out is to try it. Of course there's the possibility of irreparable damage to your phone. Backing up the files to your pc is worth a shot, but who's to say that the phone will even boot up ( and allow for a sync connection) once the files have been removed. Your choice dude. :?
Guest davy Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I may be completely wrong here but don't the files in windows get recreated after a soft reset? davy.
Guest jhew Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 errmmm.......now I think about it, yeah, I believe they do. Whether that extends to ALL the files I dunno, but I know I changed the icon pics once, all was ok until a reboot, and the old ones magically appeared. Kinda scr**s the pooch as far as my last post was concerned now doesnt it! :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 The files in Windows are all read only. You can replace or remove them, but they'll be re-written to Windows from the WinCE ROM image on the next boot.
Guest Crispy Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Does anyone else have these files on their device? I have a file called backup.htm, which is a complete guide to geneva! (althou only the restarant part works), but this has proberly been mentioned before right? :)
