Guest FrankyG Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Hi, Ok, I'm confused. having read and searched through heaps of posts about bootloaders, backups and SD cards it's not at all clear to me what it's all about. Do the various bootloaders all have different capabilities re Backup/Restore options? Whats the 'best' bootloader to have? I'm assuming that the goal is to be able to backup the IPSM to SD card and restore later, so that all registry settings, skins etc are restored. I'm at that point where I know I should have some backups but not sure what to backup. I've used Orange Backup to store contacts etc, but would like to have a 'full'' backup on SD card if it's possible. So where do I start? I have 8Mb and 256Mb SD cards although the big one is full of apps and music so don't want to use that for backup. Will I need to buy another card for backup, say a 32 or 64Mb card? I've also got a card reader. I have UK update1 (1.35 I think) but haven't applied the keyboard update. It's currently app unlocked and network unlocked. If I have to do a hard reset I would like to get up and running as quick as possible, any advice is welcome! Off to do some more reading.... FrankyG
Guest vijay555 Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 AFAIK 0.97 bootloader allows full ipsm backup. or you can do it with usbterm on any phone. orange backup just saves outlook data etc, not settings. You can also do the same thing by backing up the data files manually, but the 0.97 bootloader might be best in the end. Personally, i live dangerously and don't backup IPSM. I don't think it's that hard to re-install, keep everything installed on SD, orange backup from time to time... Registry's a concern, but whatcha gonna do? Don't really want to mush my phone with a bastardised 0.97+1.37/1.50! V
Guest martin Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Registry's a concern, but whatcha gonna do? From the registry application itself, you can do a full backup which can then be used for a full restore at a later date. :) Just cant restore in parts - not yet. ;)
