Guest mattscholey Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Hey, If you've read my last post, you'll know that the Orange SPV which I planned to get is no longer available (because of the new E100), so I'm looking into other smartphones. Around the world there seem to be many smartphones available, but after searching on google, I can't find many of them. What I want is a list of names of smartphone models that are available NOW somewhere in the world. I live in the UK, but am happy to buy it off a foreign website, and import it, but I do have a limited budget. If you could name some models, I can then search that name on google and find some more information on it. Many thanks in advance, Matt
Guest mattscholey Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Basically, just reply with the name of some smartphone you've heard of. That would be greatly appreciated. matt
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Best available at the moment is the Mitac Mio 8380. You'll have to import it from Tiwan though, you're looking at about US$700 (see sales forum). After that theres the Tanager/QTek7070/SPVe100 etc, available around the world. You'll have to shop around for hte best price though (you're looking at $300-$400).
Guest mattscholey Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Thanks, would all the prices you've given be for a SIM free phone? Matt
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Not sure about the Mitac, but the Tanager should be unlockable with current simunlocking methods.
Guest mattscholey Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 What I meant was, would I have to buy a contract along with the phone? Thanks, matt
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Ah i see, i don't think you do with all, no. I think www.ppcw.net is selling Tanagers SIM and contract free...
Guest mattscholey Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Thats great. I assume any smartphone will work on the Orange network in the UK, like and SPV does. Matt
Guest Crispy Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 What I meant was, would I have to buy a contract along with the phone? Yes if you don't want to pay a bundle, unless, of course, you're willing to buy the phone secondhand ...
Guest spacemonkey Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 The Mitac is definitely sim free at that price, Tanager (E100) has only just been released and I think we are looking at contract prices of around £200 for it. I would expect this contract price to drop fairly quickly tho. Tanagers on ebay without contract seem to be fetching $450-500 US at the moment (after just a rough check). Hope that helps.
Guest Amaze Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Im looking forward for this nifty gadget .... Motorola's Frog
