Guest Chubs Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 :!: Please help me!! :!: I turned my SPV on this morning and found myself looking at the Orange default homepage instead of the custom XP one i had created. When i looked further I found that I had factory defaults on everything, plus my alterations. I also found that I could not use any of my decertified programs as it seems that it has locked itself. Could this be a virus or just a bug in one of the programs I had? Aden Earnshaw ([email protected])
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 No virus, just a rare bug that results in the phone resorting to factory defaults. Have you installed any software recently?
Guest Chubs Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 I just installed a Poker game, is it possible that this could be the cause :?:
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 Possibly, not a lot you can do about it. Just make sure you reboot after installing any applications.
Guest schizoslayer Posted July 10, 2003 Report Posted July 10, 2003 This happened to me when I used a PLaylist creator for WMP only it happened as I watched. It copied the playlist file over to the phone and when it finished the phone rebooted and the entire thing had been reset except none of the data on the phone had changed (I install SmartExplorer to the phones memory and it was still there I just couldn't run it as the phone was locked again). It was tres strange
Guest Posted July 11, 2003 Report Posted July 11, 2003 This happens when the SPVs Registry becomes corrupt, to protect itself the phone resets the Registry to known default values when it boots up. This does mean that all Reg settings for your programs are lost, as are most of your settings, and any de-cert that you have done; but it doesn't delete any programs from the phone. When this has happened to me I have done a hard reset (which nukes everything) and re-installed everything from scratch, rather than trying to rebuild the phone with a new Registry. Registry corruption can be caused by a failed install, a program error, local high tides, and which way the wind is blowing. :)
Guest Chubs Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Thanks for all the help, my SPV is almost back to normal. :) ;)
