Guest sumradagnoth Posted July 11, 2003 Report Posted July 11, 2003 Hey, I installed Midnight's speedups last night and then did the power off/power on. well, what resulted was the orange sunset screen of death... rather, the orange sunset screen that never goes away well, i managed to recover my phone and restore the OS after a bit of troubleshooting. question is: has this happened to anyone after installing the speedups? should i risk it and try installing again?
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 You purchasd a Tanager, correct? Are the speed tweaks meant for the Tanager or just the SPV?
Guest sumradagnoth Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 no, using an orange SPV. It could be just a fluke that the phone got messed after the tweaks were installed... i couldnt find any thread where someone else had the same problem. i did find several threads where people were unable to recover from the hanging sunset screen issue, so maybe i just got lucky.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Definitely install the speedups. Did you install onto the phone or the SD card? I would install onto the phone as you want them working even after your SD card is out, though I'm not really sure how they work...but there are files that get listed in youe IPSM/MyDocuments folder. Other than that, I'm not sure what the problem could be.

Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 What about the files written to the MyDocs folder? Does it matter if they are there on on the SDs MyDocs?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 I believe they are only info files and may be part of the uninstall process. I have just installed the speedymenus and speedboost tweaks on my spare phone, choosing card for both but they installed the nfo files to My Documents in the IPSM not on the card :? It's been a while since I played with these cabs as I have a different OS tweaks on my phone :) but I remember midnight stating that what I quoted above when he first released the tweaks.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 You ARE thorough! :) Did you ever hear of his problem before?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 The only time I have ever heard of similar is when someone installed the French version of midnights tweaks, they bundled at lesat two tweaks into one cab and claimed they were better than midnight's version (even though they were the same ) but midnight did say installing more than one tweak at a time could cause problems. A search may bring up more info (if you know exactly what you're looking for :)) but remeber the slightest error in the registry and you can either semi hard reset or even kill the phone. That's why I never recommend registry tweaks to newbies, I like to play safe (sometimes ;))
Guest sumradagnoth Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 good advice. i did choose to install the speed tweaks to the phone and not the sd card btw. maybe the problem was i installed both speedy menus and speedups, one after the other, and then turned the phone off and back on. perhaps should "reboot" after installing each one?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 perhaps should "reboot" after installing each one? good advice but when I tested it just now I installed one straight after the other and did not get the sunset problem. The sunset problem can happen at any time so it could just be a coincedence :?
Guest sumradagnoth Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 just reinstalled the tweaks... sweet, no orange screen of death! did them one at a time just to be safe :) thanks for the responses. you folks on modaco are the best.
