Guest ArtyCarl Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 I bought my SPV 2 weeks ago and despite all the warnings I had from people I have found it a pleasure to use and irreplaceable...however...I bought my son one too on ebay a week later, which had a PAYG Orange SIM with it. I got him some credit on it and within a day it had all gone and most of that day it was sat on my desk doing bugger all. Now the phone is coming up with a Communication Error...Unable to place a call....so whats trying to dial up...why...and is this where all his money has gone?
Guest markd66 Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Sounds like it might be trying to check an email account, perhaps? Try going to Inbox and pressing Menu > Options > Automatic Sync and make sure it's set to 'Never' Did you hard reset the phone when you received it? Cheers, Mark.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Does he have GPRS enabled on his phone? Is GPRS and WAP configured correctly? I got the same scenario when the phone was trying to receive a SMS sent by email before my GPRS was enabled or my MMS was setup correctly...it gets confused and thinks it's a MMS message. The phone company (TMobile) continues to try to send the message to the phone to no avail and once the phone receives the SMS portion of, again, what it thinks is an MMS...it tries to retreive the MMS but fails. The whole process continues over and over. Be warned....I received a phone bill for $600+ with 11,000 received messages on it (the continual failed attempts) that I am currently in the process of disputing. I dont know if this is related...but the Error connecting is the same. It may be that the MMS is just not set up correctly or like markd66 said...email is configured to auto retreive and GPRS is set up incorrectly. I think I may have gotten you confused even more....I done.
Guest ArtyCarl Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Thanks gents...he didnt have GPRS enabled but I did and I did try my SIM card in his phone before he used it. Although the big G isnt there at the mo sometimes the little g on the right comes up so I guess the settings are wrong. Thanks again i'll have a go at reconfiguring his settings.
Guest martin Posted July 12, 2003 Report Posted July 12, 2003 Thanks gents...he didnt have GPRS enabled but I did and I did try my SIM card in his phone before he used it. Although the big G isnt there at the mo sometimes the little g on the right comes up so I guess the settings are wrong. Thanks again i'll have a go at reconfiguring his settings If its trying to make a GPRS call (say for auto email) and its failing the connection, I don't see how you are being charged for it :? unless it then attempting a GSM dialup. For GPRS you may have to check access points. Contract is orangeinternet and orangewap PAYG is payginternet and paygwap
Guest ArtyCarl Posted July 13, 2003 Report Posted July 13, 2003 I have gone to an earlier post with PAYG settings and changed everything to match and that seems to have solved the problem. Thanks again
