Guest siu99spj Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Weird that. Most MPEG codecs are already bundled with Windows. Assuming you've got XP, it even has the MPEG2 codecs properly sorted so there's no problems there either. And, as you said the codec can't be downloaded from MS, the only thing I can suggest is that its either a weird proprietary codec, a knackered file or its a weird MJPEG thingy. Best bet is to try it through VirtualDub. That thing opens even those which Media Player skirks away from. Then you can recode it to something more watchable.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Had a similar problem after rebiulding Winodws this weekend. An mpeg that played fine pre-format is now unplayable post-format... nm.
Guest Zim Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Hey guys kinda sorted it, downloaded the nimo codec pack and sorted it out! only just the sound started playing! but oh well. then i went to some movie forum and well the recomended video lan, and well it worked perfectly! the mpeg is top quality, was quite impressed with the player! guys should tried it, they say it opens up nearly any movie format. Guest Glorfindal Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 hey guys cant get virtualdub to load up mpeg2 files, any idea why? cheers in advance
Guest siu99spj Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 hey guys cant get virtualdub to load up mpeg2 files, any idea why? Basically because the movie houses told the maker NOT to support MPEG2's. Best option is to find the 'hacked' version which supports any tytpe of movies file your PC can play (And yes, that includes VOBs). I don't have a link, so you'll have to do a Google search.
