Mobile Email Trial and "surfing"

Recommended Posts

Orange's site states:

The Promotion will provide free access to mobile email sent and received using GPRS for a period of three months from the date of connection.

The Promotion can only be used for the sending and receiving of email using GPRS and cannot be used for data calls which use circuit switched data transfer methods.

However does surfing over GPRS from my laptop or using it on my handset count as a data call ?

Surely it doesnt as I am still using the GPRS connetion?

Has anyone surfed and had a bill since joining the trial?

I don't fancy getting a bill of £80odd if I surf as well as check email...

Comments, thoughts please :)

This says that GSM (circuit switched) data connections are not part of the promotion.

You must use the GPRS (packet switched) network for all your data connections where all data transfer will be free during the promotional period.

Has anyone that has been using this service for "normal" GPRS had a bill through yet?

Yep - I have, and no charge, as posted here :)

Orange Fax and Data also confirm that you can surf the Internet without a charge, make sure that you are aware that the service has a fair user policy of 30MB!

Be careful ...

I signed up to this 'trial' in May ... so far my June bill & also my July bill have had GPRS data transfer charges on.

A quick call to Customer Services and they have refunded them, but they can't explain why. Using the 'orangeinternet' APN (as part of the settings they sent me).

Strange thing is this also happened on my wife's PAYG account ... again they credited the charges but it hasn't happened again on hers.

Maybe there is a billing problem somewhere ?

I didn't go anywhere near that site or have to change any settings. Just a quick phone call to 156 to get put on the promotional tariff.

HELP  Orange really are getting me angry!!!

I disabled the originally GPRS promo pack 2 weeks before my July bill. I called 156 on Monday and specifyed the GPRS email promotion as per previous threads. 2 sim updates and 2 settings updates later I am still unable to access GPRS via IE or MSN. Also waited the quoted 24 hours for GPRS to be reenabled. I have checked all the data connection settings as per previous posts but still no joy....

Any advise??

Just called Orange to get my answerphone turned off for a bit as going abroad and thought I would check about the GRPS changes I had made

OCS:"Yes sir your on 2mb pack from your next bill date"

Me:"But I moved to Mobile Email Offer on Saturday"

OCS:"ahh yes it does say that sorry your right"

Me:"So my next bill won't show 2mb pack will it"

OCS"No just £0.00 Mobile Email till mid October"

Me:"Ill wait for the bill"

Bring on 24th of Month

I would bet the cost of the 2mb pack its on the bill either with the Mobile Email Promo or instead of it!

Orange sort out your billing systems and also create a way to check bills each day like we can with minutes :)
