I don't see any point in having an FM radio built in to the SPV.

You can buy a good FM radio if you want one.

Yeah - but it's more convenient to carry around just the one bit of electronics. My missus loves the radio in her 8310 - especially when I'm late picking her up after work

Also, why not?

I'd love to have fm. was gutted after switching "Radio off" first time i touched spv, only to discover it wasn't FM, but radio stack ;)

v_patel1 - what kinda software are you talking about for the 7650. Is this an emulated radio?

nope. that's physically not possible. what has is being develloped is a way to stream web-radio to the 7650.

then there is an SD card available that brings radio waves to palms, so not really interesting for SPV users :)

remember how radar scanners were supposed to be implemented in some nokias ? lol

So we could have a web-streamed service like they're developing for 7650??

Infact I know we already do ... but has anyone actually tried (successfully) listening to a web radio broadcast using WMP? I know for one that my GPRS reception is so bad I spend 2/3 of the time buffering (this is with a 28kbps stream!)! Hardly usable ... H

How does the 7650 differ?

Has anyone had any more luck than me?

i have tried them........

and they are a waste of time with GPRS in the current state.

I was at the beach a few weeks ago and sat there listening to streamed capital radio no problem, so it IS possible, if you have a good connection and the right quality feed!

I am fairly certain GPRS isn't particularly consistant here in the UK. It varies from location to location and at different times of the day.

I recently went to Prague and found that the GPRS connection was much faster than what I have ever experienced in the UK.

It was still slow(ish) in spain when i was there last week......

More to the point though James - what version of software were you running Paul?

Since the UK update, I've found that streamed media via GPRS is a big pile of pants

Just hoping it's been fixed in version 1.50 (or whatever it is we eventually get!)

Streaming radio = listening to radio over the internet, ie Radio 1 etc

An alternative to streaming radio is Replay Radio, which is like the TiVo for streaming radio stations. You could record shows using this program on your PC in MP3 format and then transfer them to your phone. No, not as elegant as streaming audio directly, but will save you a lot of money if you're not on an all-you-can-eat GPRS plan. I'll be reviewing this on my website in a few days time.

I have done a FM-Radio that works over gprs at 32kbps with permissions from NRJ.. works fine in my ipaq. But very expensive... Better over free Wlan here in Sweden :)
