The New 'The Darkness' CD

Hey, i just bought the new darkness album (and what a great CD it is) but in the car on the way home i noticed a big sticker on the front saying CD COPY PROTECTION, oh no i thought how am i gonna get my songs on my SPV if i cant stick them on the PC.

So i got home stuck the CD in the pooter and i little box came up saying i needed to install several files to play this CD, sod that i thought lets just have a blast at playing it---sure enough WMP played it fine ripped it to my hardrive fine, bit of a crappy copy protection i thought---but what if i installed the 'several files'.

So i went back and clicked YES this time--after a short installation the new 'player' played the files in 48kbps MP3 (ergh)----i went back to see if they had locked WMP from playing the CD but they haddent.

i fail to see the point?? even if you did install there software you can still play the music at high quality on WMP why would you bother using the crappy 48kbps rubbish?

i think there time would have been better spent sticking some vids or extra features on there to urge people to buy----if i had seen that sticker before i got in the car i probs wouldent have bought it and so wouldent alot of people i think..

interesting! i had a terrible experience with the new(ish) massive attack album. when i put that in my computer it instantly opened up a never before seen audio player and plays through that! exploring to the disk shows a couple of tiny files, nothing else. :?

i am using xp home, what are oyu on?

Im on XP pro --have you tried opening it from Media player 9 or right click on the drive and press play? worked for me but they may use different systems.

Im not gonna buy another CD with it on in protest!!!

Hehe :)

My theory is:

If you can hear it - you can copy it

If you can see it - you can copy it

If you can read it - you can copy it

Not that it's piracy - ie SPV music

So the point is - unless they make the whole thing so protected that you can't even use - there's no chance they can implement copy protection

so what they gonna do in the future---put hardware in our computers so we cant copy??

Anyway isnt it our legal right to be able to make copys of our music for backup purposes?

where does the law stand on putting the music you bought on your MP3 player??

Depends on where in the world you are, in the UK it's a NO :)

even though most of the population make copies to play in their cars etc

and don't think twice about it.

Would you ever buy hardware that did this?!! If a company ever makes a CD drive that can't rip I don't think it's going to sell too well!

yeh your right i was being stupid as usual.

Suppose they could do it when they change formats in the future--if the government enforces it anyway--long way away i suspect.

i would galdly buy a cd if i really liked the band and they say gave you a DVD with it (like the new foo fighters one) with a few Vids and a few tracks in 5.1 dolby---kept me entertained for a bit anyway.
