Guest Zee Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 I found a 3GP player for smartphones on microsoft.com's website. I found it under mobile devices>smartphone>mobile application catalog>video devices>smartphone>platform 4 This is the link: http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/catalog/de...89-b3eee7c0134d I installed this on my smartphone from my PC. After installing, the pop-up message said to check my mobile device for more instructions to complete the installation... there were none. BUT i lost 3mb of my phone's memory. I was able to restore the "lost" memory by deleting the files that it was trying to install which i found in my applications folder. Can someone help me install this 3GP player properly? Are there additional steps that I am not aware of? Thanks!
Guest Swift_gti Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 where is the download link you used ? I have looked on the philips website linked from MS, and there is only a d/l for PocketPC and Desktop PC ? I assume the Pocket PC one wouldn't work... I installed the PC version tho, and the content on their website looks decent quality for the file size.
Guest Zee Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 i downloaded the same file you downloaded from the philips site. I know it says for Pocket PC but i was banking on what microsoft's website said that it could be used for the smartphone.
Guest Zee Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Hey Madu... yeah, that's the one.... can you help me? I can't seem to be able to install it properly
Guest madu Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 I couldn't even find the link to the cab. But just linked to the pic on the site so people could see what it looks like. Soz man
Guest Zee Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Here is the link where you can download the installer... it works just like the installer for the Pocket TV classic http://www.digitalnetworks.philips.com/Inf...nelId=N764A2175 the cab file i found on my phone under the "App Manager folder>install sub folder" ... after it failed to install and ate up 3mb of my memory even though the system requirements were way less than that. Thanks to everyone who can and tried to help :) P.S. - I have not tried to install the cab file yet... after the "auto install" failed I lost all my settings... even my pocket tv got unregistered but did not lose any contact info... so i'm a bit hesitant to try anything with this for now.
Guest madu Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 [was ur phone unlocked?] and then reset itself to defaults [and relock?] It IS for PocketPC only on that site.
Guest Zee Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 - Nope... it's locked and stayed locked... should it be unlocked? - My skin reverted to the default one, my settings all went back to the default settings but my contacts and calendar notes stayed intact. (this was after the installation failed and i rebooted the phone.
Guest madu Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 That's your phone hard reset itself coz the installation corrupted some system files or registry. Happens occasionaly to people. If your phone is application locked I suggest you visit OTA to unlock it so u can use all the free unsigned apps. That is unless you are on SMART (coz they have it unlocked by default)
Guest Zee Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I believe it only plays .3gp not sure if it can play .MP4 though. Still cannot make it work, I tried asking microsoft about it via e-mail and they have not replied yet.
Guest Zee Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Still working on it... i've sent e-mails to microsoft and philips, they said they would e-mail me after they have reviewed my e-mail. I will post the installation instructions once I have them ironed out. P.S. - If you're feeling brave you could try installing it and if the installation doe snot go through then copy the .cab file from the app folder and run it in IPSM>etc... etc. "have not tried it yet" :)
Guest Zee Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 I'm just about ready to give up unless anyone else has any other idea on how to make this work. Microsoft advertises this player as smartphone 2002 compatible... it is a Philips product... but when you go to their website to donwload it it says for Pocket PC. System requirements seems compatible with the smartphone. when I contact microsoft they pass me on to Philips... Philips on the other hand has not replied to my e-mail for 5days now and their only phone number for support is in the Netherlands! I tried running the .cab file directly from the phone instead of using the installer from the PC... no good... any thoughts? anyone? anyone tried to install this themselves?
Guest v_patel1 Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 i did didnt work and i want this BAD
