Guest skinnertim Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 I don't understand why the last forum on this topic is locked as if, like me, you bought the phone in large part for the Mp3 capability. Why does media player insist on playing all my Mp3's in reverse order from the albums that I place on my nice big card? The theory that it's due to my ripping programme (real one) as per the last post on this topic just can't be right as they come out in perfect order when I check them out in Smart Explorer. This must be a common problem...? It's a shame that PocketMPV wont play more than one track at a time as I would be more than pleased to leave WMP behind... Has anyone any idea what I should do (apart from charge up my old Siemens SL45)?
Guest madu Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 You have to make playlists (ASX). There's a playlist maker for WiMP somewhere, have a search. PocketMVP can have playlists too (PDL), there's a topic on how to make them
Guest skinnertim Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Thanks Madu - You got me off on the right scent there.... That search thing is good innit ;) OK - I'll sum up what I have found out in case it helps anyone else (if it does help, do a relevent search to find detailed instructions for each method). Please bear in mind that I am not a techie or programmer, just a user with mid-level PC skills and not a huge amount of learning time... How to get the SPV to play your albums properly in the right order and stuff (like a proper mp3 player!) a) Creating playlists by hand. This method seems a bit long and arduous, although I have not perfected it yet. If you spend the time to create a list per album - I imagine that you could just reuse the list each time you transfer an album over (as long as you keep songs in the same place). The big advantage with this method is that lists can be created for PocketMVP as well, which is a much better player than blooming WMP (I hope for my first working list soon)... :D Using (trialware/shareware) programmes to create playlists There are two programmes available: SmartMp3 and Playlist creator which both create lists for Media Player (not PocketMVP, unless I am being thick) - please let me know if you know of any others. SmartMp3 seems to work by creating lists when files are transferred from the PC only - you can't create lists from the Mp3s already on the card. As I use a Lexar SD/MMC reader/writer to transfer Mp3's (about ten times faster than the cradle method) this is not really to my needs... Playlist creator seems smaller and more managable - and creates playlists from tracks on the card - obviously better. The only problem is that I have not dicovered how to get the lists to work (I think the lists need to end up in the same folder as the tracks - I'll try this), nor have I discovered how to alter the order of the list's tracks (and therefore not solving my original problem).... c) Using Windows Media Player v.9 This is a great tip (and is my preferred method for now) - using the 'transfer to device' menu (to my unlocked phone) in WMP 9 , the tracks all come out in the right order :) It seems that some people have had a problem with this method, but I guess that the Lord of Windows (should that be the Dark Lord of Windows?) took pity upon me... The only thing is that I still can't use my card reader so this still takes quite a while to get those songs over to the phone... d) Charge up my dear old SL45 (the one with playlist features, bass features etc that came with a phone released about 3-4 years ago...)> If only it was colour, had a camera, millions of games, the real Internet, blahdy blah..... If anyone has gone through similar pain, let me know your thoughts...
Guest MECX Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 yup tryed them all WMP is the best method in my opinion--then again i dont have a card reader  everybody still have the problem with the stereo swiching when you change tracks or playback skips---this didnt annoy me till someone pointed it out--so sorry if you didnt notice
Guest madu Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 ASX File example to split tracks: Here: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=877 ASX File example to make a playlist: The files will have to be in same folder as playlist.
Guest skinnertim Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Lorks a Lordy ( I love this no swearing thing - I havn't used that for years) Madu - You've put the frighteners up me now - do I need to really understand this stuff?... :) I'm voting with MECX for now and staying with WMP 9 - that's at least until I get back from my holidays and get this Pocketmvp playlist thing sorted - I love that player... (and no Orange, I ain't gonna pay £10 per MB to get on the net from abroad). BTW MECX, I got a great thing called a jump drive trio from Lexar as a card reader in Tottenham Court Road for £15 - you should be able to get it at least as cheap online - it really is a huge amount faster than the cradle. Er, not that you can use it to transfer your music files as they come out all mixed up  Cheers for the replies guys - this forum really is a pleasure....
Guest MECX Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Hey welcome to the site anyway dude its a pritty friendly place unless your called big ron :) ;) yeh was thinkin of a card reader didnt know they were that much faster tho---wasnt mainly for music as i still think i woulduse the cradle and WMP9 but for movies---its what makes this phone in my opinion. if you find a post from clinteastman have a look in his sig and try one of his encoded trailers---man they make this phone look cool. :D
Guest cyrilthefish Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 I'd love to have a word with whoever wrote the media player for the SPV. it'd be nice to see what sort of insanity lead to the randomness of the playing order! :) as far as i can see, the only thing that explains the playing order is it using the physical order the tracks were transferred to the card. I just wish they could have had an option to sort by filename, as you could then bypass the lack of a playlist feature by putting numbers in front of each filename to order it (i used to do that on my SL45 when i couldn't be bothered to use the playlist creator ;))
Guest skinnertim Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Quick final tip on using WMP9 to transfer tracks - I was playing around the other day and found that WMP9 had detected my lexar card reader (see above) and sent stuff straight there - so all now plays in the right order and takes milleseconds compared to going through the cradle... :) Not that I imagine that Microsoft would ever try to force anyone to use WMP rather than the decent MP3 programmes out there or anything - would they ? Nah, course not...
Guest MECX Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Card reader for me then--cheers for the info was wondering this the other day spot on :)
Guest JoelRae Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 my 128mb card and 6-in-1 reader are in the post from ebuyer :) Cheers for the info!!!
