Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Here's a screenshot of something i'm trying (and dying!) to get running on SPV... So far so good! Not perfect, but promising! As you can see, i'm SSH'ed into the MoDaCo Server, typing commands on the flexible keyboard (just done a process list). I'll post progress here! PSSH.gif
Guest madu Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 I'm no good at this (@ all) but I can see many people LOVIN it when it gets sorted! Nice one Hmmm, the scheme looks familiar... :)
Guest maskinen2000 Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Weee... any need for a betatester :)
Guest cactuz Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 SSH on the smartphone.. way to go... whenever the software is available I will buy a flex-keyboard for the phone...
Guest cactuz Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 SSH is a secure shell you can use to log on remotely to a computer... normally a *nix-based system (linux, unix, bsd and so on). and you can controll everything trough this textbased shell. I use it for i.e. IRC, mail, controlling servers etc. read more about it @ http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/sDefi...i214091,00.html
Guest fraser Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Nice one Paul, lot's of people looking forward to seeing this.
Guest shareef Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 can't wait for this... thanks Paul! :)
Guest Myke Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 if this worked on the SPV, what would you guys use it for?
Guest mark_g_james Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 if this worked on the SPV, what would you guys use it for? I'd quite like to check my mail using pine, through SSH, on our unix box :) at the moment I have to direct it to an insecure offsite IMAP server whenever I want to travel with my SPV, plus pine allows me to check news groups at the same time :D :D - and not forgetting the processes I could restart without the client incuring an additional call out fee ;) unless anyone knows if I can use SSH through pocket outlook :?: looks unlikely but you never know...
Guest shareef Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 if this worked on the SPV, what would you guys use it for? to admin cvs and bugzilla servers 8)
Guest Arisme Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 no, I don't think Pocket Outlook supports POP3S or IMAPS (surprising )
Guest fraser Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 They don't, but someone did a thing with stunnel to wrap imap/pop up in ssl wrappers on the SPV. I'd definitely be interested if we can use ssh to create secure tunnels. Paul, will we have a CLI that allows us to specify port forwarding? What also would be useful would be certificates, to save having to use passwords. Typing in a decent unix password in T9/abc would be no fun.
Guest spacemonkey Posted August 16, 2003 Report Posted August 16, 2003 I'm working on this, the environment that the original author used is a bit weird so it's been quite slow going sorting it out. By the end of the month (august) I should have more to say :)
Guest twobombs Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 tnx, take your time, I'm happy someone is still working on this :)
Guest yarod_g14 Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 Paul, I noticed that you had the "on call" icon on your screen shot. Did you actually dial onto the machine using the SPV as an analog modem? Just wondering because I would love to be able to dial into NT4 machines and 200 servers with my phone and use something like this or telnet.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 That's the icon for IA Caller ID :) There is a Telnet client available, take a look at my site...
Guest fraser Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 Though you shouldn't use telnet anymore, it's completely insecure. That's why we are all patiently waiting on SSH to come along!!
Guest shareef Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 Though you shouldn't use telnet anymore, it's completely insecure. That's why we are all patiently waiting on SSH to come along!! true enough, but telnet over a vpn is better than nothing
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 Surely better than anything?
