Guest AngelOfRage Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 i was looking at the ICQ website and noticed they did a version of ICQ for i-mode, J2ME, Symbian and Palm OS platforms... i was woondering how dificult would it be to port it to Smart Phone?
Guest lynxlynx Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 So does it work? Cant you use the pocket pc version of icq`? any tips?
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Yes it works. iMov that is... it supports ICQ/MSN/YAHOO and AIM
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Does anybody use ICQ anymore? I used to use it all the time, so did my friends. But somehow we've all ended up using msn (or trillian) for the last couple of years. Has this happened to anyone else?
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 All my "geeky" friends (and I say this with the biggest respect *cackle*) use ICQ .. all my computer-handicapped friends use MSN. I use trillian --- so I can stay in touch with both groups *cackle*! Which is also why I can't live without ICQ on my SPV!
Guest AngelOfRage Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 thats exactly what i use... trillian as one group of friends use MSN and the other use ICQ, really Trillian is a god send and its skinnable aswell! ill look into getting iMov sorted. thanx for the tip
Guest dyey Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 where can you get iMov for the spv? thanks :)
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 www.movsoftware.com But check the >>Software Catalogue
Guest Crispy Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 I use trillian --- so I can stay in touch with both groups *cackle*! Ahhh! ... Another saved soul :)
Guest axe Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 yeah i was also 'forced' into using bloody MSN because my MOTHER is using it :)) all computer litterates I know are on ICQ / Trillian ... if the irc client in Trillian wasnt such a system hog I would prolly get myself a copy of that .. untill then I'm running multiple instant messengers at the same time.... so be it gonna check the price on that Imov thing ... might be worth grabbing ! edit : HHHmmm... .pocketpc version is FREE (with adds but still...) and the Smartphone version is $20 (!!) ... guess an add supported version on the smartphone would be pushing that gprs bill skyhigh ;)) I think I'll buy this anyway since there seem to be no good games coming out anymore for the SPV .. (initial hype seems to have gone down)
Guest Gorskar Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 well I know of at least one VERY nice game that shouldn't be that much longer in the making... (no its not worms before you ask, although surely that can't be too much longer either...) Incidentaly have you tried Rocketelite? (my current most played game) The demo should give you a pretty good idea of the gameplay.
Guest AngelOfRage Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 i read on another post that there is no trail period for the iMov messenger and also that it is not easy to get it setup and working like it should.
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 It's true that there isn't a trial version out .. but it's really not THAT hard to set up. Took me about 20 minutes without reading the helpme. With tips and tricks from here... it should take about 5 minutes .. max *wink*
Guest cyrilthefish Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 I stopped using ICQ 2 years ago because i got fed up of being spammed to death on it (even with a brand new account a had spam messages coming through within a few hours) Everyone i know uses MSN, I've never recieved any unwanted spam using it either :)
Guest vijay555 Posted August 6, 2003 Report Posted August 6, 2003 i've never been spammed on ICQ, but then haven't used it in a fair while - just got back on this week. However, anyone played around with free ICQ thru wap? like watching paint dry, but it does work! Guest antz Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 I dislike Trillian, last time I used it it had bugs and didnt support more advanced features, like videconfrencing (Yes, I know netmeeting exists, bun still!). In Windows I end up having a seperate client for each protocol I use, and use the default "branded" clients. Speaking of which, all my REALLY geeky friends now use Jabber, you may try giving it a go. MSN6 with Plus is a good combination I find. Then in Linux, where no clients supporting anything advanced are even in the planning stage, and gnomemeeting is as far as it gets, I use a single client, namely gaim. Kopete is becoming quite good too.
Guest antz Posted August 7, 2003 Report Posted August 7, 2003 Oh, and I think ICQ did something about its spammers. I used to get spammed all the time, about two years ago, but I havent had a spam for months now. I say ICQ is now again safe to use! :)
