Guest spv_dman Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 "Fellow SAP users, how could i make WWS work in my phone? tried it but it hangs my phone, and worse, I can no longer access the internet." I'm not exactly familiar with WWS. There must be configurations on your phone which was altered by WWS, barring you from accessing the internet. You may revert back to orig config by changing the settings via "ProgramsSettingsData Connection". Check your Owners manual on how to do this. "Likewise, please advise naman what is chargable in the internet access... > the KB download? " Yeah, if you're using GPRS it's 0.25 per KB "> the download from where WAP or internet access? > the difference between wap, internet and GPRS?" You may access the INTERNET either thru WAP or GPRS. WAP as a means of connection, pertains to dial up access. Same as using a phone and a modem. I'm not that well versed with GPRS, I think it uses signalling standards via GSM network   Whereas before you can only access "WAP sites" thru your old WAP/GPRS phones, smartphone supports even non wap enabled sites. This means you can browse thru most sites just like with your desktop PC. Via wap is chargeable per minute regardless of download size; while GPRS is per KB as earlier mentioned "> is it charged also ba per minute?" Applicable to WAP. "> what about the regular download from smart portal?" Usually, it's at 15.00 pesos (polytones, images) :) ;) :D
Guest ses Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 thank you spv_dman... and also to grifter. I will reconfigure my data connection as suggested.
Guest grifter Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 correction to what spvdman said. WAP can be accessed both on GSM (dial up) or GPRS. the SAP can use WAP over GPRS. With WAP over GPRS, you are still charged by the amt of data you transmit/recv. The only diff is that Globe's WAP over GPRS is FREE unlike SMART's. WAP over GSM is the old method of accessing the internet. This uses the built-in GSM modem capability of the mobile phone to "dialup" to a remote access server (2399 for globe) similar to dialing up to your ISP. This first came out with the N7110 and ER320. I think the first phone that came out with GPRS access was the ER520. correct me if i'm wrong. :) You can access the internet via WAP or HTTP. WAP and HTTP are protocols used to access the INTERNET. WAP sites are optimised for mobile devices -- they are written in such a way that there is minimal data/pics so as to minimize connection costs and download times. Generally you'd want to access the internet using WAP coz it's cheaper. Unless the site you're trying to access doesn't have a WAP version of their site. You can use wsp://www.google.com to search for sites and I think google has an HTML to WAP site conversion facility so you can view HTML sites in WAP format.
Guest mariolouis Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 the google proxy server detects what kind of browser you are using. if you are using a wap phone, use webwapselect, or when you type in prefix wsp:/ to the address, it redirects your "request" to their wap server. otherwise, you will open their full web page. webwapselect simply automatically writes the prefix wsp:/ to any site you type in the address bar.
