Guest madu Posted July 19, 2003 Report Posted July 19, 2003 yep i noticed that, but also my battery went dead (fully ran out) about 3 times recently and I think that this is the cause. AFAIK Li-on batteries don't like baing fully discharged and some cells 'die' because of that.
Guest krankie Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 Madu are you sure about that last bit? I'm not sure where or when I read this but my understanding was that you are meant to discharge batteries completely from full about once a month to prolong the battery life. Not just for the SPV but for all rechargeable batteries. Could well be wrong though but it would be useful to know for certain if anyone can confirm.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 Madu is correct if you fully discharged li-on batteries they do not like it and get very upset :) you would have to run it very low for this to happen.
Guest madu Posted July 20, 2003 Report Posted July 20, 2003 Yup, and Lion apparently like being topped up too. There was a good site somewhere explaining all this stuff, so NiCad for example do need to be discharged once in a while as you said..
Guest Hax Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I can concurr - for a while, I kept letting my mobile phone's battery run down as I thought that LI-Ion batteries suffered from the same memory effects as NiMH batteries, but I later learned that they actually don't have such memory effects and therefore it does no harm to keep topping them up. As for damage being caused by completely discharging them, I have not seen anything that states this but would not be surprised.... BTW: Found this site which has more info on th edifferent types of batteries. Hax
