Guest blueflash Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Nope didn't work to good :) It grabs 1st 2 pages of a website no problems. but then fails unless I'm using settings wrong ;) If you got web sites you just want to grab main index from its great as for TV have to hope digiguide release a smartphone version.
Guest sipper Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 See also comments re free WinHTrack offline browser - http://www.httrack.com/ here: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7063 and here: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=86581 I tried this when the first post came out but couldn't get it to work. However, I had another go last week and have now succeeded. This is a selection of the "pda friendly" sites that I’ve succesfully captured and read offline on the SPV (these are all news/ sport sites but I'm sure you'll be able to find others*. Unfortunately, I can't find a TV listing that works either. The font size is sometimes quite small) http://avantgo.itn.co.uk/ http://pda.sky.com/news/pda_news_headlines...asp?section=top http://news.bbc.co.uk/low/english/pda/ http://wireless.cnn.com/avantgo/CNN/europe.en/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/low/english/pda_sport/ www.guardian.co.uk/avantgo http://sport.guardian.co.uk/avantgo www.football.guardian.co.uk/avantgo www.politics.guardian.co.uk/avantgo http://avantgo.thetimes.co.uk/services/ava...go/0,,0,00.html Not a particularly speedy process even with a broadband connection but I found this much easier to use than the Sunnysoft product. I suggest you try one site out initially until you've got the hang of it - I tend to download a few sites at a time otherwise it slows down a bit - and it is a daily manual process. Once you've downloaded to PC copy the "My Websites” folder over to SPV storage card (if you have the Resco file explorer then right click on the folder and the "send to" command should include "My Device"). The copying takes some time if you have captured a lot of sites! Once the folder is on the SPV use whichever explorer programme you have to navigate to, and open, the index.htm file. Bookmark this as a favourite as it will give you links to the individual sites - you can then bookmark these as well. (If you capture sites in batches each batch will have its own folder and index.htm file. You may find that you only want to update some sites on a weekly etc basis - you can set up separate projects for these.) This may not be to everyone's taste but its the nearest alternative to AvantGo that I've found so far. Although if anyone can persuade me that Sunnysoft's offline product is any less complicated ... ! Sipper * Perhaps a "PDA friendly site" section is needed somewhere?
Guest jenneth Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Nope didn't work to good :) It grabs 1st 2 pages of a website no problems. but then fails unless I'm using settings wrong ;) If you got web sites you just want to grab main index from its great as for TV have to hope digiguide release a smartphone version. I have it working just fine for grabbing content 3 links deep. Go to Tools|Edit Settings for each channel and check the "Max. level" number there. Change it to three (or however many links deep you want to go) and it should work.
Guest blueflash Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 it should jenneth but I changed it to 4 and I still got a lot of not available pages. I'm going to try the above suggestion later
Guest sipper Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 In my post above I implied that I didn't find the Sunnysoft WOL that easy to use - I've now tried it again very succesfully and, using pass through and a broadband connection, I agree its a v good product. Well done Sunnysoft ! As far as the links are concerned, it's worth a bit of trial and error until you get it right - you may find that some PIE friendly sites have a link to their main www site deeper down and if you set the link too deep you'll start receiving a v large amount of data ! If this happens simply hit "skip" and go back into Tools/Edit Settings and reduce the links as jenneth suggests. (The WinHTtrack is still a good product as a back up for WOL or if you need to capture full size web pages for viewing offline on your PC) sipper
Guest sipper Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 After much trial & error I've now got UK TV listings using the Pocket IE (PIE) friendly (i.e. Avantgo) version of MyDigiguide using the Sunnysoft World off-line (WOL) browser. Two points: · You need to be registered for the MyDigiguide Online Premium service (GBP6.99 per yr) to get the full content – so this may not suit everyone; and · I can’t give you the full URL address for the WOL browser setting because part of the address is personalised - details below. (If you’re not familiar with MyDigiguide http://www.mydigiguide.com/dgx/wbl.dll you can set it up to include all your favourite (UK) TV and radio channels and set emails alerts for your favourite programmes, and different (or custom) times to view etc. I think that there may be versions for Ireland and elsewhere but I’m not sure. (I’ve been using it via Avantgo on my Pocket PC for a couple of years – but it stopped being free last yr.) If you are not registered for the MyDigiguide premium service and have not used it before this is what it look likes - the full version includes programmes details etc (don’t forget you can view this and all PIE friendly sites through your PC browser): http://www.mydigiguide.com/dgx/avantgostat...ic/daylist.html (try it on your SPV using this URL in the WOL browser set to 3 link depth) This sample version only gives one day & three channels but gives a taster of what it is like - the registered version covers most UK terrestrial, cable & satellite channels. Unfortunately, they don’t do a trial period with full listings. If you’re already registered for the premium service then, to find your own URL go into MyDigiguide, click on “set up for handheld devices” then click on “setup mobile favourites”. This will then give a link to your own formatted personal page. Save this as a favourite on your PC. Add the URL for this into the WOL browser (you’ll have to do this manually unless someone knows how to cut and paste from PC to SPV??), set the links to 5, and add your “MyDigiguide” password in the relevant box (you don’t have to fill in the "user" box in the WOL menu because your email address appears as part of the URL). Your best bet for starters is to have the MyDigiguide setup for one day (I have mine set up for 3 days at a time with a custom time setting) and, say, the evening schedule and then play around until you get what you want. I’ve downloaded it three times this week to test that it works and it does so - though it is quite a big download. Sorry that this is a bit involved but I hope that it makes sense. I'm not the world's best at explaining techie stiff like this ! Best of luck ! Sipper
