Guest kyrkesmith Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I bought an SPV off eBay, and put my PAYG SIM in it. However, now it's got a problem. It's stuck in headset profile, and I can't sort it. I've sent an application off for Orange Care, but I have a feeling it will be rejected because it's a second-hand phone. The seller assures me it is under warranty until February, and there is no way it can be out of warranty, because it's been available less than a year. What do I do?
Guest Brody Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Blow hard in the headphone socket! :) Its a well known problem... http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php...ghlight=headset
Guest kyrkesmith Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I've tried that, without sucess. I've tried all the "solutions" I can find to no avail, and I am certain it needs to be replaced/repaired. That's where my problem arises, since I bought it on eBay, as described above.
Guest Brody Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 So its a warranty question rather than a headset profile question, i'm no help but there are people with knowledge of workings of such things :)
Guest fixit Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 If the warranty doesn't transpire, try inserting the jack from the hands free kit halfway into the socket and giving it a gentle wiggle around, watching the homescreen at all times to see if/when if goes back into 'Normal' profile. You won't have a reliable handsfree option, but at least it'll make the phone usable again - has worked for me as a workaround on both handsets I sent back with this problem.
Guest davidhorn Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 I reckon if you look the the jack you'll find the end of it stuck inside. That happened to me and I needed a new phone.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 The seller assures me it is under warranty until February, and there is no way it can be out of warranty, because it's been available less than a year. Get the seller to send if off for repair, as it's unlikely that the warrany is transferable.
Guest eyup Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 just out of interest - who do we contact to sort out claims under warrenty? Anyone have a number? Spoke to orange cs and they said they'd get back to me with the number - still waiting 5 days laters! what seamed wierd is the gal said she'd contact me with the number for "SPV" which is thought was confusing as its not the name of the company!
Guest blewer Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Place your headset jack 3/4 of the way in the socket. Now gently pull the plastic part of the jack downwards, (so the jack inside the phone points upwards). If you keep doing this you should see the profile switch back to normal. Wait till it stays on normal for a few seconds and quickly pull the jack out. You can also push the jack into the phone quite hard, this sometimes allows the profile to return to normal. Hold on normal for a few seconds and pull out quickly. Be carefull, once you have had this problem it's more than likely to happen again, so if you can help it don't use the headphones again. Or if you are covered by Orange care get a replacement phone. Take note that this is a common problem so it's possible this could happen on your replacement too!!! Let's hope not!!! Hope this helps Adam
Guest kyrkesmith Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 As expected, my application for Orange Care got rejected. "Care can only be purchased with a brand new Pay as you go phone and the model to which you are wishing to apply care - Orange SPV - is not the handset to which you are actually registered on the Pay as you Go Network. We are unable, therefore, to add Care to your phone." I've spoken to Orange, and I have to get it repaired under warranty. Having been told by the customer services rep. that Orange don't make the phone, it's made by SPV (hmm...didn't she mean HTC?), they put me in touch with Hays (tel: 01295 662109) who handle warranty for the SPV. They're sending a jiffy bag for me to send it to them in. They don't need a receipt at the moment, because the phone has been available for less than a year, so all SPVs are within warranty.
