Guest jm-darcy Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Hi there, I am using my SPV as a modem on my Laptop. I do not use the GPRS and simply use a dial-up connection that happens to count as free minutes on my o2 tariff. 1. The steps I took were to turn off the USB connection in ActiveSync. 2. Take phone from cradle and go into Accessories, Modem Link. Make sure that Connection says USB. Then go to Menu and Press Activate. 3. Place back into cradle and computer will say it has found new hardware. 4. Insert the Orange disk that came with phone and select it as the place for the computer to find the drivers. Click next, next etc. 5. Go into control panel and in modems, select the SPV as default modem. 6. Start internet and the computer will dial your IP's number through your spv. Very simple indeed. If you want to dial up using the phone's GPRS tyhen you have to enter a "string" in the advanced settings of the modem. I read this elsewhere in the forum. But for me, I use a dial up through my SPV. It is counted as my free minutes and connects at 115Kb/s. Hope this of some use. James
Guest virdirs Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 jim, what talk plan r u on? I didn't think you could use inclusive minutes to dial up?
Guest jm-darcy Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Hi there, I am on the 500 minutes off-peak tariff. I can use the number that they give for WAP access because that also doubles as an internet connection and takes off my inclusive 600 minutes of wap usage. I also use Blueyonder which dials up a Bristol number 0117... This counts as my free minutes and deducts from the 500 I have a month. I therefore have 1100 free minutes of internet dial up for free a month! HTH Jim
