Mitac Mio... APPLICATION LOCKED!

Following in the rather shaky footsteps of Orange, the Mitac Mio(reviewed at ThreeGMobile ) is being released by CECT in China with the application lock ACTIVE!

Mio users are already arriving at MoDaCo looking for ways to remove the lock, and I am aware of a couple of community members working on a way to disable it...

Well, IMO 2 things would be much appreciated

1) complete ROM dump (let's dream)

2) IPSM dump + a way to restore it

feel free to contribute

How does Orange/Mitac/Microsoft expect the smartphone platform to be a succes if you can't run freeware on it?? ... I just don't get it!!

Aside from being APPLICATION LOCKED, I can't seem to find a way to get to the Canary or bootloader screen.

Pressing the record button and power button (same as the END button) for sometime will hard reset the phone erasing everything and setting the phone back to its original default condition

The bootloader is a HTC creation, hence on the Mio it will be different...

I think another user found a menu to backup the IPSM (but not restore it )

Hello Terwin,

Here is how to get to the boot menu screen of the Mitac Mio 8380:

1. Phone must be off.

2. Press and hold the volume down key located above the SD/MMC card slot then press power on (end) key until the blue boot menu screen appear.

3. Use the volume up/down key to choose menu item and the rec key (right side just below antena) to select item.

4. Just be careful and don't experiment with items you are not sure specially the ROM Update and CPU Update items, the Erase IPSM is similar to a "Hard Reset"

Best regards,

That is what I am also waiting for, how to application unlock the mio? since we are the first few to have it outside of Taiwan and China, we may have to wait a while for that to happen, menwhile more and more applications are also getting signed

In the SPV app unlock how-to's I've read so far it mentions mxip_oem_10.provxml and a mxipcold_oem_10.provxml files. I just checked my Mio 8380 and it has a mxip_oem_10.provxml but no mxipcold_oem_10.provxml.

There appears to be no SecurityPolicy information in the Mio 8380 mxip_oem_10.provxml file.

The Mio 8380 has a file called mxipcold_smartfon_1.provxml. Could this be the file I need to edit?

Also a file called mxip_oem_3.provxml with some SecurityPolicy parts to it at the bottom of it's file:

Any ideas?

I erased the ROM on my Mitac, but it didn't put all of the Mitac items back. What should I do to get everything back, like the Mitac homescreen, polyphonic ringtones, and all the other Mitac stuff?

Please let me know ASAP.

Thanks

I think what you mean is that you erased the IPSM, that is equivalent to a "Hard Reset" and to put everything back you have to use your Mitac Disk2 to install the other programs again including the mio homescreen, midi files, and all the mitac bundled software.

Yeah, thanks. I ended up doing that when I got home. I wasn't at home when I posted my previous message.

Are you in the U.S.? If so, or even if not, did you get your Mitac configured to send the MMS messages.

no I am not from the US, I am from the Philippines and I got my mio 8380 from Taiwan, yes I was able to configure MMS, you have to edit one of the existing profiles detected by jMMS in the settings menu.

It receives MMS messages fine, but when I send them, it goes through the complete process like it sent the message, and then it says "There was an error sending the MMS message."
