Guest Martin@Home Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 I did a poll not so long ago about which "hairdressers" car I should get. The opinion was overwhelmingly "DONT".... Have now decided to go for something completely different. Mitsubishi fto and specifically the GP type R version as per jpg file. I have the money waiting, insurance quotes are in, I'm poised and ready to take the plunge ! Just wondered if anybody has any pearls of wisdom they would like to send my way along the line of "STOP>.. You're making a big mistake" or "Go for it, great car" etc etc. EDIT :- Much nicer picturefto%20red.jpg
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 looks nice but I know nothing about this motor :oops:
Guest Martin@Home Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 +++++ 2.0 V6 / Intelligent auto+Tiptronic gearbox / variable valve timing / 200BHP / limited slip diff / rockstar looks !!!!! --------- group 20 insurance (ouch!)
Guest madu Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 go for it mate! It looks pretty damn good in real life and with 200BHP it can do a few things... not to mention doing the rockstars :roll: :)
Guest jonblakeburn Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Just wondered if anybody has any pearls of wisdom they would like to send my way along the line of "STOP>.. You're making a big mistake" or "Go for it, great car" etc etc. Go for it, the FTO's a classic. They can be cheap as chips now too! In my opinion better than the GTO - Thats way OTT! :)
Guest philgriffiths Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 They can be cheap as chips now too! Yey its a bargain hunt fan! Get an Fto........'It's a Bobby Dazzler!'
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 They look alright but because they released some low power versions I think it suffers a bit of an image problem. Also not really my personal taste, but you can't really argue with the specification of the thing - if it's cheaper than other ~200BHP car options then I'd go for it mate. 200BHP isn't to be sniffed at - just about right for a quick, but not stupidly fast, road car. Another cheap options might be the Seat Leon Cupra R, it's basically an Audi A3 Quattro with 180BHP and no 4 Wheel Drive but it costs less than £20K new instead of the Audi's £25K. I suppose a second hand Honda Accord Type R might be nice too - 212BHP from a VTEC engine (I out breaked and overtook one of those around the outside of a roundabout on the way to Silverstone on Saturday - te he :twisted:)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Bah, I'm going to put a spanner in the works and say the FTOs styling is very questionable, and I don't like the 'stuck on' fog lights and square plates of imports. Interior is typically jap plastic, but performance sounds OK... Welcome to the 200bhp+ club :) P
Guest Martin@Home Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 OK... Made up my mind and gonna go for the GP Ver R or GPx (both 197BHP does that still count for the 200 club Paul ???) Next question then.... Can anyone suggest a decent jap import garage within a reasonable distance from Portsmouth ? :) ;) :D :D
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 It's funny to hear you guys use jap sort for japaneese. That's almost an ethnic slur here in the US...like using the N word.
Guest Martin@Home Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Ooops :oops: Sorry if I offended anyone ! Dashed cultural barriers !!!!
Guest nobznss Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 That's definately not something you'd want to call a japanese person here in the US. That's alright though, no harm no foul. I definately LOVE that car. Why is the US always the last to get anything cool/nice looking? :roll:
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 What's the yellow one in the window? I'm talking about he CAR martin...not the asian fellow in the showroom! :) Just Kidding! ;)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Is that 8495 NEW?????!!!!! :shock: If so that's sooooooooooooooo cheap! That cant be a new car price as that translates to under $14,000US.
Guest Martin@Home Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 What's the yellow one in the window? Its a Mazda MX5 ( I think !) or it might be a lotus elan, but I think they specialise in JAPANESE :wink: imports so more likely an MX5. Is that 8495 NEW?????!!!!! If so that's sooooooooooooooo cheap! That cant be a new car price as that translates to under $14,000US. hehe... Nah, the car is a 1996 model but, like most FTO imports it seems, is very low mileage and pristine condition. :)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Well it looks brand new....good luck!
Guest Martin@Home Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Gonna check some out over the weekend.. Will report on my findings ! :)
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 That is *definitely* an MX-5 in the window...
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Actually, I think you should forget the FTO and go for this!!! :)
Guest Martin@Home Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 I would but my insurance company wanted £2000 cos of all the non standard parts ! :)
