Guest flyswat Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Evening All, After numerous calls to Orange trying to get my WAP connections sorted out, it appears that i am now connected, using the 'Orange WAP' settings. I am connected to WAP GPRS, however, I have tried to go to some websites to be sure I am only on WAP, but of the few sites I went to they actually sort of loaded (though incorrectly). I assume I will be charged for this although I am currently on the free WAP trial. I thought i couldn't access Web sites via GPRS wap connection. If i am going to be charged for this how can i ensure that I stay on wap? I believe the document type (menu, properties) of wapsite is WML, in which case if i stick only to them i will be OK. However, the default 'home' page is wsp://spv.orange-today.co.uk/ - this appears to be a website, (the type is 'html' document). The Protocol for both the wap and web sites is 'wireless session protocol'. If this is an internet site then i will be charged for it, even if i go straight to the wap home page of wsp://orange.multimedia/ , as it doesn't appear that i can change the home page to this address. Would someone explain this to me, Orange didn't help much, apparently, i am 'just lucky' that i managed to access a website ??!?!? Sorry if this is a bit wordy, but i just want to be sure. helpp :? :? :? :? :? Thanks flyswat
Guest martin Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 flyswat, you are correct about WAP only. (if set to WAP network in IE) If you use WSP in the address then this will use the WAP connection which is for WML pages only. You can't download HTML pages from the internet using WSP. So how is that wsp://spv.orange-today.co.uk/ loaded an HTML page from the internet ? Actually, it didn't. :? When you clicked this address in you favourites menu a GPRS connection will be made to the internet address but the page will have been loaded from the phones memory (from page history). If you had then tried a refresh for this page then wsp://spv.orange-today.co.uk/ would fail. Obviously no charge for the phones HTML page :) You can goto Internet Explorer - Menu - Memory and clear history. Hopefully you should have no more mysterious pages being displayed. ;)
Guest shaia Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I'm having a similar problem- I want to connect using dail up rather than GPRS to connect to WAPsites and my mailbox but it doesn't look like I can :) Any ideas? the most important thing for me is to send/recieve my emails over dail up as Orange GPRS is costing me a fortune!! Please help!
Guest Jedi Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 There has been some instances where users have gone from Wap to Internet unknowingly on some phones like the P800 but I’m not aware of any problems on the SPV as long as the following settings are correct. Note; The correct Wap prefix is wps:// Settings for the SPV for Wap ont Orange GPRS Network; Go To> Programs> More> Settings> Data Connections> Click Menu and choose Edit Connections> Highlight GPRS Connections> Click on GPRS Connections> Highlight Orange Wap Ensure the settings are entered as follows; Connects To = The Internet Access Point Name = orangewap Username = LEAVE BLANK Password = LEAVE BLANK Primary DNS = 0.0.0.0 Secondary DNS = 0.0.0.0 IP Address = LEAVE BLANK Click Done three times> Ensure Wap Connection = Orange WAP ( the GPRS connection we just created). Click ‘Done’ until you get back to the Home Screen Now we need to tell Internet Explorer to connect to Wap Only. Click Programs> Internet Explorer> Click on Menu> Click on Options> Click on Connections> Ensure Automatically Detect Settings is ticked. Select Network should be set to ‘WAP Network’ Click Done twice> Click Menu> Click ‘Go To’> Type in the Orange Wap Home Page = wsp://orange.multimedia Click ‘Go’ When the page loads ad it to your Favourites so you can get there again and again. While you are there, checkout Games, Top Five Games and have a game of Dino Island. The Orange WAP ‘Open Access Pack’ is only £4.00 per month for unlimited WAP access (subject to the Orange fair usage policy of 10MB per month). Alternatively phone 150 and get the free 3 month ‘Open Access Pack’ available to all Orange Customers until the end of August. Jedi
