Guest Chuckster Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 If I am using a Smart Prepaid SIM, can I do GPRS and MMS?
Guest mariolouis Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 yes you can. call *888 in your phone for the instructions to activate gprs and mms.
Guest virgil Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 If I am using a Smart Prepaid SIM, can I do GPRS and MMS? yes u can . a friend of mine who works in SMART SM Manila told me to try sending SMS message GPRS ON and send it to 333. For mms you type MMS ON and send it to 333. hope it works. what error do you notice when connecting GPRS?mms?.
Guest schadow1 Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I did texting to 333 but takes too long for them to process. what idid was to go to a smart wireless center instead and it got activated the same visit.

Guest spv_dman Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I tried comparing SMART's gprs with globe's, it seems a lot faster. Also, I heard from a colleague @ smart that we're coming up with a GPRS upgrade pretty soon, maybe a new protocol with significant improvement from that of GPRS.
Guest smartrey Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Yes. They are now starting to introduce what we called, "EDGE". This is a new developed technology and proven tested. If our GPRS now is equivalent to a 2.5G this new technology is a 2.75 while next on it is a 3g. Yes. They are now starting to introduce what we called, "EDGE". Guest ses Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 that explains the difference on connection and downloading speed. I use both smart and globe, and i have noticed that it is indeed faster surfing in smart than in globe. Likewise, with globe, my mms download or messages are either unsuccesful or delayed.
Guest mariolouis Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 i sometimes encounter errors when viewing a wap page using smart, which is annoying since i have to refresh the page.. which also means a lot of gprs traffic, therefore bigger gprs charges. i hope, i wish, i fervently pray that smart would provide wap via gprs for free like globe is doing.
Guest ses Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 surfing in smart portal regardless of duration is charged flat of Php 2.50 without the download. Additional charges will only occur when you downloaded from any of the services which ranges from 2.50 to 15.00 for information, polytones or mms. 20 - 25 pesos naman yata for the java games. However, if you surf outside the smart portal, say mocado, that is .25 per kb download. That is how it was explained to me. With regards to globe, as per their cs, surfing into the globe portal is free, but the cost of download is more expensive. Surfing outside the portal daw is chargeable but i do not know how much per kb.
Guest schadow1 Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 ok. so you've finally used your GPRS/MMS? how was it? scale it from 1 to 10... huh? I can't compare it with globe because i haven't tried globe's gprs yet. (in my area globe's signal is very weak). I'm used to using broadband at home. If i compare gprs against myDSL, well, I would give a failing mark for the gprs. Most of the time, especially 6pm-10pm, i can hardly browse through Smart gprs and always get dropped connections. By 10:30, browsing is flawless.

Guest virgil Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 im a smart subscriber, is there any way I can send mms to to globe subscriber and rcvd it?? there is no interconnection yet,,, pls help tried it, it doesnt work dude. But according to one friend using globe my MMS(sent to him using ADDICT Mobile) messages were saved on their server--and was viewed when they logged through globe website. likewise, my friend send me an MMS using globe , of course i didnt received it on my phone but fortunately i received an SMS message containing MMS ID and password for viewing MMS message in SMART website. And VIOLA! the MMS message was there :!: :!: and it was from the GLOBE number. I dont know if this is just a glitch of some sort. but this works fine for me. :) ;)
