I have been using this for a few days now, when you tell it to call a number, and read the number out, it recognizes it perfectly every time. But if you tell it to call a contact and read the full name out as it asks, i have not once got it to recognize the correct contact and believe me I have tried many many times.

That said the calling the number bit is certainly impressive, at least the folks down the local thought so..

Anybody else having trouble??

Cheers

Richard

Exact same thoughts from here!

Dial a number works a treat

But getting it to find the right contact is reaaaally hard. Even with English names...

Is there a trial somewhere?

EDIT: Never mind I found it.

I think its a great app, especially as you don't have to add voice tags to any of your contacts, and the dial a number works a treat. For those having problems with dialing a contact, I am positive that you are not using the correct format, the opening screen does have a set of dialogs and where it says {call } you basicaly say "call (the name of the contact)" for example you say "call britney" to place a call to briyney. I have used this and am surprised remarkably well the finding a contact and number works + it only takes up bout 800 kbytes, which great for people like me who still have an 8mb card. Hopes this clears things up.

Well ... I'm Danish, and I don't really expect the phone to recognize names pronounced the 'Danish' way .. like Søren .. whatnot. But even when I add english names to my phone - like John Smith - it still doesn't recognize it when I say "Call John".

Instead it attempts to "Call Orange" *conspiracy theorist*

It all worked first time for me, even with some strange Welsh names

Works great with me too. Only the odd one or two names it struggles with, but usually gets them with a second try

Well .. I humbly bow and apologize for my previous snorting and cursing at this product!

It's actually not THAT bad, I tested and tested today. Added a bunch of english names .. and then it suddenly hit me .. instead of saying "Call Ricki" .. I started saying "Call Ricki Lake" (yeah yeah I don't have a lot of imagination)

Anyways... it worked wonders! Using both first and last name suddenly the phone would also recognize Danish names (altho my pronounciation of them would probably make Danish people laugh *smirk*).

Not too shabby at all!!

still don't work for me, i have 'Lyndsey Carter' so i say "Call Lyndsey Carter" and it tries to dial anything other than that, do you think it has something to do with my lisp and I whistle when is say my S's (Only Joking!!!!) I can't even get it to call "Richard Home" it tries to call my Dagenham office ?????????????????????

But i will buy it anyway for it's call a number feature.

Whats the limitation on the trial version?

It works pretty well I have to say, both name and number dialling. I have my doubts though how good it would be in a noisy environment...remains to be seen...

Think the trial version works fully for 30 days.

I have now tested the software and to be honest i'm not very impressed. First of all you have to start the application everytime you want to use it, (rather than it run in the background) and I found the sensitivitiy of the sound pick up was amazing. So amazing infact that it would pick up the dog panting and start to dial something  . i managed to select the home screen and have it running in the background but it just kept clicking and picking up any sound around.

In summary, the voice recognition is amazing and works straight away without having to program it but if you had it runnnig in the car and you had the stereo on (or even the fan for that matter) you would end up saying NO every 10 seconds to stop it dialling someone. I was looking forward to a good piece of software but I am a little dissapointed, there should be a function for a keyword/button to press to enable the voice activation.

Sorry guys - it's a no go for me! :)

Hmmm all you would have to do, is set the program up with a speedial - or maybe even the VoiceRec button!?

Then you just have to press one button to start up the program. It's not a deal-breaker problem for me for sure...

That's fine but turning the thing off once you have rung someone is the tricky bit. Once you finish the phone call it will start to ring other people.

Ahh I see what you mean .. it really should return to Fonix - so you can say "quit" .. that's one for the next version!

I might be being a bit on the thick side, but I cant get it to install. I've got plenty of space on my storage card, but it says it cant install to that location!?!? Any ideas? I dont wanna install it on the phone!

I agree with Chickster; you shouldn't need to start it every time you want to use it. It would be best for it to stay active - 'listening' until you tell it to 'suspend' or something like that. It would still be running in the background but not ready to place a call until it hears your voice command to 'resume'. That would be very cool.

As for the name recognition, I've found that it really is best to speak naturally without slowing your normal speech pace. It found most of my contacts including complex names. It just won't work though when I tried to slow my speech down. Very good sound pickup :!:

I don't have a car on the road at the moment, but if these issues were resolved I'm sure I would buy it. As it is, the T9 contact lookup is superb and hard to beat.

wonder if Fonix are checking these comments out.... :?:

I've been using this for a week or so now and I have to say I'm impressed. I didn't have any issues with installing it to my SD card, and once I realised you had to say the full name I haven't had too many problems getting it to recognise what I'm saying. I think it works partly by recognising the number of syllables. This can cause a problem when you forget exactly how you put a name in! I didn't put my sister's surname in and confused it when I tried to call her by saying her surname.

I've assigned it to the Voice Memo button so it's easy when I'm driving. It wouldn't recognise No. 1 when I said it as number one though, has anyone tried it with other abbreviations?

Not sure what you mean chickster? It's never been active after a call for me. It would be good if it had 'Magic Word' like the P800 though. TBH I nearly bought a P800 partly for that feature, but SPV's were free that week! :) Think I've betrayed my family going with Microsoft (my brother works for IBM)... ;)

It installed fine on my pc, but when it came to finishing the install on the phone, it said it couldnt install to the SD card. Very strange. I tried it again, but it still doesnt work!

This program sometimes is a bitch with my Danish names.. Anyways, i find this app very cool, and if i try to speak English hard enough it will eventually work.

A cool feature is that it remember how you pronaounce the names and saves it to: Program Files-->Fonix-->VoiceDail-->UserProns ... This makes it alot easyer to call your contact the next time..

Anyways.. I think this program's just the start of apps that react on your voice.. In the future normal apps and games proberly will follow you vicecommands, and im looking forward to that :)
