SPV and E100 UK ROM UPDATE

So, we've now got two devices sold in the UK with the same buggy OS version... The SPV and the E100 (Tanager)

- Both haven't got an SMS character counter (still a scientific impossibility it seems)

- Both feature a crippled Windows Media Player that stops every 10 seconds or so to re-buffer data even though it could be playing the video file locally

- Both have a hideous automatic memory/task manager that causes the phone to leak memory all over the place, rendering it often unable to answer calls or delay to come back to life from the sleep mode

- Both have a serious bug with the Voicemail notification icon on the Orange Network

- Both occasionally store the SMS messages directly onto the SIM card and hide them from the phone's inbox (unless you manually import them if you think that this might have happened)

- Both will eventually get stuck and keep alerting you to a new phantom SMS message each time you switch the phone on

- Both will take approximately 30 minutes to recover from something as dramatic as the change of the clock to an hour forward or backward.

I have so far changed 3 SPV devices and these are repeating bugs, even after the update (which was back in February [there was an update after that which only introduced keyboard drivers])

And I ask, will we ever get another sodding software update for this phone (preferably one that ONLY fixes things and doesn't break other fine apps like the last one did with Media Player)?

Needless to say that as soon as an equivalent phone (in features and size) gets released by Nokia or Sony Ericsson, I'll be turning my SPV into a door-stop and forget that it ever existed because the other brands are bound to be more stable...

And don't give me that "Yes but look at what the SPV can do and the others can't!" excuse...

Yes, it features many great apps but 50% of the reason for buying it is because I wanted a phone...

...and if the phone malfunctions, then there's a 50% reason to be dissatisfied.... and 50% is not good...

Really shouldn't this thread be entitled 'Annoying glitches we are only too aware of'?

Does that mean you're 50% dissatisfied with 50% of the SPV? :)

On a serious note though, I have to say that I agree with morpheus2702 - I came here expecting to see news about when the software update will be released, not just to read another rant about the known problems with the phone - just skipped through it all TBH. Maybe putting the words "Any news of" before the rest of the subject would've helped...

Well, actually my post was a question-turned-rant...

I was hoping that someone would jump out and say: "Well, there's actually an update due...."

And besides, it's a forum.... not a news bulletin...

Expect rants, raves, news and pictures of dancing monkeys!

Hopefully, the forum is accessed by Orange people too.

So highlighting old (but important) issues could be helpful...

It's a discussion.... and as such, not all things in it have to be new!

Dancing monkeys? I'd buy that for a dollar...

OK start a thread called 'OI W***ERS AT ORANGE READ THIS YOU SHOWER OF C***S!'

It's true what mantrac says. We can only put up with the bugs and crashes for so long. I was the smartphone's number one fan, but even I am getting fed up with the lack of interest anyone of importance shows in it.

who do you classify as anyone of importance?

nokia? hehe, they'd do anything to see ms fail, but other phone manufacturers are warming to the idea of smartphone (and more importantly microsoft mobile 2003 smartphones)

Well surely there is the perfect opportunity for an enterprising individual to come up with an integrated pack of tweaks to give us what we want? Sure you can get most of these either free or from Handango, but a one-stop solution would be great, especially for newbies.

Say some of Midnight's registry tweaks to improve speed

A working SMS counter

Integrated GPRS counter

Improved T9

Say call it the ModaCo Update 1.5 - I for one would pay for it. P.O.'d waiting for the official update that is no massive improvement by all takes.

I am talking about someone in Orange or MS who actually cares enough to release a software update that actually fixes just a couple of the HUNDREDS of bugs/tweaks/abnormalities that are listed in this forum and many other websites across the world.

GPRS Sticking - SMS Counter - Delete all SMS/Email - T9 words - Full phone backup - oh why bother, you all know what the bugs are, we discuss them often enough.

My e100 now is 'not really' any different or more reliable than the SPV I purchased the day they were released last year,

What version of the OS does the E-100 run?

1.5.0.29 and there is bugger all difference to 1.3 or whatever it was.
