Guest Simon Desser Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 As an Orange UK customer, I found it strange, that on my recent trip to Amsterdam, I didn't have the option to "roam" onto the Orange NL network? When two of us, who are both with Orange, opted to choose a network manually, we had the choice of about 4 or 5 networks, but Orange wasn't one of them :?: However, some more friends who are with O2, and Vodafone, both had Orange as a listed network
Guest FrankyG Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Same as Australia; there's an Orange network...but it's not linked to Orange UK at all, except through the 'branding'. In fact I think it's CDMA so no chance of roaming anyway. Might be the same situation you describe..dunno for sure. The 'Orange' Network in Holland(which may not really be Orange) may not be in the list of preferred partner operators(Bizarre if that is the case!), but it might well be for your friends on Voda and O2....pure supposition on my part but it nearly sounds reasonable to me :? Guest ajb3000 Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 The SPV stores the carriers names in the phone, and does not update this list with what the carrier sends. When I was in tenerife one network was showing up under the name 'Airtel' for me, and for my mate with a Nokia it was showing up 'Vodafone'. I believe Orange took over an existing network in Holland recently, so it may have been showing up with the old name.
Guest Simon Desser Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Adam, you're spot on :) The two of us who have Orange UK phones, both roamed onto a network called Dutchtone. A quick Google showed that Dutchtone was rebranded as Orange ;)
