Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Dont know if any of you had experienced this but when I turned on my phone (just a 10 minutes ago), the phone suddenly had a different home screen and the lingo was already set up in German. Plus the default *.asf for media player (which i deleted a month ago) was there again! Even my apps were responding like they were just installed! Is there something seriously wrong with this?! I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 This can happen if a registy fault has crept into the phone, this can happed when an app gets installed or dodgy xml etc. The phone has an autorepair feature. you may find that you need to decert the phone again to install unsigned apps.
Guest kallep Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 I have had the same problem but it is solved now.. just decert and then make your personal setting again..
Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Dang! I forgot. I'm from the Philippines, so that means that our SPV's here are already decert. If that is the case, is this a hardware or a software issue? Thanks!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Software problem, still caused by the explanation above, a semi-hardreset will still give you the problems you listed.
Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 can I resolve this by simply re-installing the rom? Or the bootloader? Or both? Sorry if I sound stupid on this. Thanks!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 You should not need to install anything, if you are getting any problems I would suggest a Hard Reset first. What problems do you actually have?
Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 From the start: when I turned on my phone, the phone suddenly had the default homescreen and the language setting was in German. My apps were responding like they were just installed (BUT cannot be found in the Remove Programs option), and the demo .asf file is back on the folder. I had to hard reset. After resetting, the phone boots normally until it comes to the homescreen (note: language=english). 2-3 seconds while on the homescreen, the phone then reboots and ends up with a German language setting. Can you please make anything out of this? Thanks!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Not entirely sure but when I used the first Danish update (remember I'm in the UK) my phone booted in Danish but then because of Activsync and my PC it then changed to the UK settings automatically. Have you checked SettingsRegional Settings on the phone? Also is your phone a SMART phone or did you get it imported? PS moved to Help and Advice
Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Awarner, thanks for the FYI! really appreciate it. :) Anyways, I got the phone from SMART and prior to installing apps and all, I've made sure that the settings were what I want (language=english, etc). Syncing it also made sure of that I suppose. I took your advice to not to reinstall but I'm worried that it may happen again. I dont know how it is on your end, but most providers here would rather not give a full warranty to their subscribers. :o
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 We get 12 Months warranty but then we can pay extra for Orange care which gives us a next day replacement service. Is the phone back to English now?
Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 Yep, its back to English and hopefully it stays that way. :) Do you think this is just one of those regular bugs on the SPV and I really dont need to worry about it?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 I would not worry too much about it, just be careful what you installplay with on the phone ie RegEdit. in over eight months I've never had this problem. :)
Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Thanks for your help! Really appreciate it! :)
