Software / applications Questions

After recently having a problem with my handset, getting a replacement and then loosing all my applications (such as ALL Locations, CodeWallet etc...) and their content, I wondered if any of you technical gurus could answer a few of my dummy questions regarding software before I buy them all again?

If I want to buy some downloadable software, am I best downloading it straight to my SPV from the Orange/Handango site or should I download it to my PC then install it on SPV from there?

Where are you best downloading the software from? Straight from the developers sites (some of which seem to be U.S. orientated) or the UK handango/orange sites?

Presumably if I download it to my PC first, then if I have to get another new handset, I can simply reinstall it again from my PC without having to pay for it again?

When installing software, I read it was best to install it on the phone rather than on my SD card, but then I also read that you need to keep your IPSM as empty as possible to ensure your phones performance is as fast as possible. However, if you have quite a few apps, you can easily use up most of the phone memory. Which is best?

This one is a dumb one, but I just want to be sure? If I have loaded on application on my SD card, then presumably that app wont work if I swap the card? (yes I know....)

If all my apps and content are on my SD card, then will all these apps work on another SPV by simply putting the card in a new handset?

And lastly, if my SD card goes faulty with all my apps on it, what the hell do you do? Can I simply copy the whole contents of the SD card via sync explore to my PC as a back up, and then copy them back again onto a new card? Or am I going to have to read the article on the Bootloader? stuff....?

Cheers in advance, (I hope)

You should be able to redownload your software from the site you purchased it from (at least you can with Handango).

It is best to store on SD/MMC card whenever possible. This also means your apps will not be lost if SPV resets itself.

I download to PC always.

If it's on a card it will only run if that card is in the SPV.

You can switch cards between SPV's (but you will have to create shortcuts on the other device or use a file explorer to run the app).

I do a full SD cardback up to my PC and then back that up to CDRom. (you can't be too careful :) )
