Guest Coucou Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Right, I've done a search on this topic and I can't find what I want though it surprises me, so apologies if this isn't a new question. Is there any way to change the picture seen at startup from the Orange Sunset? I can't see anything obvious in startup. Plus I read a thread about deleting all those shortcuts in the startup folder, is it confirmed that deleting those things isn't harmful?
Guest Brody Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 I think i'm correct in saying that the startup picture is part of the ROM and therefore cannot be changed as performing a soft reset (restart) restores the phone to its default setting (Orange sunset screen). Surely its not that big a deal though, afterall, its only visible for a few seconds! :)
Guest Coucou Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 No, it's not a big deal, just had to restart the phone so often while customising it I'm getting really bored of that picture! Thanks for the quick answer though. :)
Guest Machineman Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Hi there, The "sun" can not be changed but the blue SM 2002 ms_splash.gif can. You can find it in mobile devicewindows replace the file with the one you want. Size of it must be Wide 176 high 220 pixels. CU M8's
Guest Machineman Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 MMMMMMMMMMMM I just found out that it doesn't. The soft reset makes the phone write back the rom :) Sorry  CU M8
Guest Crispy Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 does it survive a reboot? No ... You need to replace it the same way you replace the xml files with the "old" decert method, which is a pain in da arse! ... A real shame thou, this looks much nicer in my opinon: :roll:ms_splash.gif
Guest Machineman Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Yes that is What I tought but to bad. I made one my own a little time 4 nothing  CU :)
Guest Machineman Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 There is an option see this link on the forum. http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7145 CU M8's
Guest Crispy Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 There is an option see this link on the forum. http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?t=7145 Yes, thats the old decert method where you replace the files whilst they are being tranfered from the rom to the IPSM & Windows folder. In that way the Windows file protection system thinks that the copied file is the one present in the rom! Somebody should really investigate what OTA does when it edits the security xml files ... there aparently is a way to temp. turn of the WFPS ... that could be insanely useful! :)
Guest Will Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 ota appears to use a root certificate to make the changes.. if anyone wants to work out how to find the certificate.. Good luck. Will
Guest jcinfo Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Create ne immage whith date and octets identical , save your CE in SD card , found the image on the backup qhit whinhex , open your image , copy an past and put the ne "CE" in your SPV whit USBTerm , an see :) ;) :D :D
Guest Coucou Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 er, didn't quite understand half of the last post. can you repost in english please? Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest kl1wdr Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 .....so? Is it now possible to change the startup picture or not...?!? :x
Guest Crispy Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Create ne immage whith date and octets identical , save your CE in SD card , found the image on the backup qhit whinhex , open your image , copy an past and put the ne "CE" in your SPV whit USBTerm , an see ;) :D :D Â B) Doesn't the Windows File Protection System check for file size??? (Remember that it wasen't the case with the decert files) ... What a shocking flaw if thats true! :) ... If it can be done "only" by changing the image criterias, then quick! Throw us a guide ohh mighty jcinfo :!:
Guest kl1wdr Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 What a shocking flaw if thats true! Â  Â :) ... Definately...I'd love to create hundreds of startup pictures...;)
Guest Crispy Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Just a thought, how do you replicate the compression and encryption? ... And is it even necesary to do so? ... And how do you transfer the file without using ActiveSync? USBTerminal?splash.gif
Guest Coucou Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 hehe, i thought it was a simple question when i asked it. good to know i've managed to puzzle a few people. does anyone actually understand what jcinfo actually means then? went way over my head. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Crispy Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 ... does anyone actually understand what jcinfo actually means then? went way over my head. Well, Im not very experinced in that french-english-half-clone thing its written in (Sorry jcinfo). But the idea sounds doable to me. You replicate all the things windows checks for in order to see if ms_splash.gif has been changed: image properties, time stamps, signatures etc. . The only problem is that if Windows checks for file size, cause then it would be rather hard to do anything useful! jcinfo, have you actually done this yourself?
Guest Machineman Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Hi, I'll try to acces the root of my phone to be able to make some changes here. But is there any way to see the hidden files in my phone? On my PC I can see them but in my phone I can't. I can see the splash screen etc. But the main files keeps hidding them selfs for me :) I'm on holiday now but I use the keyboard to tweak those things here but it would be nice if I could see the things ;) Anybody who knows how to make them apear???
