Guest FrankyG Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 ...or so the OCS told me..hmm :?: I called up about a GPRS problem last Saturday (The day after the £6/unlimited deal ended) and while he was looking through my details he enthusiastically announced to me that I was on a £4 - 2Meg GPRS bundle AND the Open Access Package. 'No point in paying for a bundle when you've got unlimited access!' I queried him a couple of times, asking if it was unlimited WAP access, or WAP through GPRS. I was certain to inlcude the words 'full internet access', which he confirmed it certainly was. So I agreed that he should take of the 2Mb Bundle. I'n not convinced that I've been given the correct information, so I immediatly took a note of his name and the exact time/date of the call so that I can refer to it if there's a dispute later :?. I await my next bill with interest.... FrankyG
Guest Coucou Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 what you should do, having some experience of OCS, is make them put a note on your account. that way you have solid proof when you have to query your bill! Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Gorskar Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 I'm fairly sure the open access is just WAP... you need to talk to someone else, and make sure a note is put on your account anyway...
Guest amo Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Access pack is for web access via the Wap protocol - not http
Guest Will Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 if you are quick (before end of month) you can change to the 3 month email promotion (30mb gprs quota per month) for 3 months it's free! Will
Guest fraser Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Thanks for the suggestion Will, I'll be doing that tomorrow. Is this the best alternative, post-free GPRS?
Guest Jedi Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 The free Orange Access Pack now renamed ‘Open Access Pack’ is FREE WAP ONLY. This does not include Internet access, as the billing system at Orange only recognises the apn ‘orangewap’ or the csd wap dial number so it doesn’t bill for the wap usage. The Free offer is subject to the Orange fair use policy as follows; 10MB per month via GPRS or 200 minutes permonth via CSD. I hope you got the OCS to put a note on your account quoting to you that it was free internet, or you will not get a refund for your internet use. The Free 3 month email offer has no end date so you can ask for this at any time to be added. This can be used for all ‘orangeinternet’ apn use not just email and at 30mb a month free its worth the call to 156. The email offer was only meant for business customers but this was never made very clear so Orange had to allow anyone who asks for it to be added to have it.
Guest ormstont Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 I'm being really stupid here, but what should I actually say when I ring 156? Do you just ask them to add the 3 months free GPRS to your account. Will they realise what I'm talking about? and is this only for new customers?
Guest Coucou Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 You have to ask for the mobile e-mail promotion, they don't all know about it because as jedi says it's really a business thing. If they don't know about it get them to go on their own website in the business section. It's always worth a laugh. "Orange Customers Train Orange Trainers to Train Orange Trainers to Train Orange Customers to Train Train Drivers Trainers to Train Their Phones, thank you." (curtsey)
Guest Jedi Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 "Orange Customers Train Orange Trainers to Train Orange Trainers to Train Orange Customers to Train Train Drivers Trainers to Train Their Phones, thank you." (curtsey) :) Nice one Coucou! Ormstont, Coucou is crrect, you need to ask for the mobile e-mail promotion. He is also correct in saying they may not know what you are on about so tell them to look it up on their system or get them to give Business department a ring to find out what it is. ;) Jedi
Guest ormstont Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Thanks a lot, MoDaCo and its members save the day again!!
Guest Will Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 oh and ring back if the first person you speak to confuses WAP and GPRS. easiest to start again with someone else. Will
Guest FrankyG Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Called OCS again, had them add the mobile e-mail promotion. Stopped the £4/2Mb bundle, which won't take effect until next billing cycle. Still got hthe Open Access (WAP) as well, so I'm pretty covered for a few months now :) The Orange computers were running very slowly, so got chatting with the bloke. I was telling him of ways to make the SPV a bit more responsive like installing apps to the SD card. I mentioned that I have most things installed on my 256 Mb SD card....[Pauses]...you mean 256 Kb SD card? hehe, after assuring him that it was a 256 MB card...he said 'yes, I can see why you might want as much free GPRS as possible...downloading straight from the 'net eh'. Not quite following his logic but he was helpful and in a good mood. My next bill will still be nervously opened.... :?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 When I spoke to O to get the email package added yesterday, the guy said I was on the '2 Megawatt' package atm :) P
Guest Will Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003                                         At least they did not put you on the 30megawap limit... Will
Guest evilminky Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 will the email promotion work for pay as you go. i understand this is doubtfull but worth asking.
Guest lucky Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 2 Questions 1/ What happens when you exceed the 30mb? 2/ Do they differentiate between data accessed through the phone and say a computer connected to the phone.
Guest Coucou Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 evilminky: you'd have to ask them. I doubt it as I don't think they offer PAYG services to business. you could always try it on though :) lucky: I'm pretty sure you'll be charged £3/MB. I wish I'd known about this promotion in the month I had a bill for £120! Would have saved me £90. As for point two, I reckon there is no effective difference as far as the Orange is concerned. The Orange being the large fruit we all send our money to every month. What does an Orange need with all that money anyway?
Guest Rusty Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Just as a brief side note on this topic, i changed to the email promotion a few days ago, the lady on 156 immediately did as i asked and cancelled my 2mb/£4 package, explaining that i would be put back onto said 2mb package at the end of the promotion. This weekend, i told my gf to ring up and get put onto this package (she has SPV too) yet it took 3-4 phonecalls to get it done and only when i was there to actually outline exactly what she wanted. When we finally managed to explain that she wanted the mobile email promotion (not the open access pack as they seemed to want to put her on) the lady at 156 said words to the effect of 'oh yes.........the mobile email package............well, um, we don't actively promote this deal'. Why on earth bother with an offer if you don't want people to use it? It clearly states on their website : Mobile Email GPRS free promotion ("The Promotion") is available to all Orange customers who are connected to a personal or small business pay monthly Service Plan, (excluding OVP call charges matched to Virgin Mobile, Your Plan 5000 and 10000 and use and pay service plans), and take advantage of Orange's mobile email service. So it's not as if they are only aiming this at business customers, yet 2-3 operators tried to fob the gf off with something totally unsuitable and the last operator only 'remembered' the promotion when i was there providing all the details verbatim from the website and then admitted that the promotion wasn't actually 'promoted' at all!!! Does anybody know why this, frankly ludicrous state of affairs is happening??
