Guest rikconaghan Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Hello again this is another newbie question, but here goes. i realise that i need to re-size pictures to 170x200 pixels to fit it on my phone as a home screen, but how do i resize pictures that are already on my pc, as i have some wicked pics that i would like to use on my phone, but don't quite know how to resize them! i could be being really thick, but never had to resize a picture before, except using the moving frame thingy in word!! any help gratefully accepted thanks in advance!! Rik
Guest davy Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Do a Google search for Irfanview. It's free and works a treat. davy.
Guest rikconaghan Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 ok, i jave downloaded the app, and i must say it shows a lot of potential, so thanks a lot for that, one problem i am having is that i cannot for the life of me get it to change the picture size to 170x200, i can get it to go a littlew smalller, which looks silly, or a little larger but not dead on, i cannot seem to input the size directly, if i try either height or width seperatly it always changes the other, i have turned off the option to keep th aspect ratio the same, but still can't do it! even altering the percentage at which the size is reduced seperatly stil;l gives me the same problem, am i using the wrong 'donor' picture size, if so what is the best size to download given the normal option on wallpaper pictures?? (ie 800x600, ect.) thanks again for your help and to any further help that comes my way!! Rik :)
Guest davy Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 If you have the same version as me then open Irfanview, then open the pic you wish to resize, then click on image on menu bar, then on resize/resample. You then have the option to directly input width and height sizes. Type in 176 x 200 then hit ok. Remember to rename the resized pic before you save if you wish to keep original size pic as well. Hope this helps, davy.
Guest JoelRae Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 i have some wicked pics that i would like to use on my phone will we get to see any of them?? Always looking for new pics to show off my spv :) Cheers, Joel
Guest Matt Kirby Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 If you have Windows XP try Microsoft's http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp>Power Toys. This pack comes with an image resizer, with this you can right click on an image file, then click on "Advanced", and you can put in a custom size. Hope that helps!
Guest rikconaghan Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 i am still having problems!!!! i have downloaded the power toy as suggested (thanks for that) but even with that, setting the picture to 170x200, and vice versa (200x170) i still have no joy, in the saved image it is still the wrong size!!! i am trying to change wallpapers that i have downloaded, would this make any difference, and also would the original size of the pic have an affct on its end outcome?? Starting to go bald now!! Rik
Guest rikconaghan Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 and it also goes without saying that i will be posting the pictures somewhere on this forum, if i ever get the problem ironed out, i am beginning to wonder if it just me be thick!!
Guest davy Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 What version of Irfanview do you have? Mine is 3.80 and works well. It resizes exactly to what you input whereas the XP power toy does not. davy.
Guest ragnarokk1977 Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 this may sound stupid but i use a thumbnail generator to create a 170*200 or 170*220 copy of an image file. Nothing special but it gets the job done! well, for me that is... :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 Rik has now posted his images and they have been moved to the customisation section :) http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...=asc&highlight=
