Guest MR_E Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 I installed this ROM; upgraded from UK 1.3.5.6. Comments: 1 - I made a backup of the 0.98 bootloader before starting the upgrade. Having read the reports from those who tried the SMART upgrade and are now looking for a way back, this seemed a wise thing to do. Isn't difficult, and lets you put the 8 MB SD to use. 2 - as this a Dutch upgrade, it won't run on phones with a UK, DK or any non-Dutch ROM. CJSNet posted a very simple and even more adequate solution in Think I've fixed the DK > UK upgrade problem. Works perfectly 3 - the phone took a very long time to start up. Long enough to get me really worried. It did boot, eventually 4 - after this boot, I couldn't choose the Dutch language: just English, German and French. Restart didn't help. I then deleted the IPSM from the boot loader menu, restarted, and there they were: Dutch locale, Dutch language option, Dutch T9, happy Dutch user 5 - I had already network-unlocked the phone before the upgrade, and it remained network-unlocked: I can still use it with my Vodafone SIM 6 - it reports using the Libertel network (in the Netherlands, Vodafone used to be called Libertel). Must be stored in the phone somewhere; my Ericsson R520 started showing Vodafone instead of Libertel after an OS upgrade. 7 - I had decertified the phone earlier; could run all available software. It's certified again now; will be looking for ways to 'decert' it. Can't find reports of 'decerted' 1.5.* ROM phones, though... 8 - I performed the upgrade to get Dutch T9 working. Now that I have, it looks like I can't use it all that much - only in the subject field of SMS-messages, so far. Time to read the manual, I guess.
Guest broeren79 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 if it is a dutch update, then why can't i just update thru the orange-update feature on te phone? isn't it official yet??
Guest SmartphoneFrance Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 A ROM Update is too big to be deliver by Orange Update. You MUST use a desktop computer to apply ROM Update.
Guest MR_E Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Update on the 'decerting' issue: I managed to software unlock the phone the official way - via the Orange website. Didn't think it would work as I use the SPV with a non-Orange SIM, and don't use GPRS at all, but it did. I couldn't get pass-through to work initially, so I configured an Internet GSM data connection, downloaded the Action Register application, which is a very small application, fortunately, and unlocked. Very pleased with the official Orange unlock.
Guest MR_E Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 ROM is no longer available. Message on the page where we could download the ROM (translation by Babelfish): At the request of Microsoft ROMs SPV and Qtek were removed site: ( Only bonds towards the official sites of the various manufacturers are proposed. Afflicted but not wanting to go in prison I preferred to listen to them.
Guest Machineman Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Hi, This ROM update is also VERY Bugy. After install you can have major problems with your phone. Batery lift decrease major and sms will not be send are some examples. Got this info from Orange Netherlands CU M8's
Guest broeren79 Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 instaled this update yestrerday, i downloaded it a while ago.... no problems sofar. no data loss, sms's still being sent etc.... don't know about the app lock though...
Guest mwille Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Guys, I used to run this ROM version and I can say only this : lett it be ! The Qtek Rom i"m running now is much better, more batterylife, IA Album in rom, SMS counter, faster feel and fewer hangups !
Guest broeren79 Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 u are using a qtek rom on an spv? is that working fine??
Guest mwille Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 u are using a qtek rom on an spv? is that working fine?? Yep, works like a charme... Excuse all while I talk to my countryman in Dutch :) Ik ben in een keer vanuit 1.50.27 Orange NL naar Qtek 1.50.9.1 gegaan.
Guest broeren79 Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 I guess i won't try this. if i screw up my spv i don't have the money for a new one so......... i will stick with this one for a while Posted from my SmartPhone!I guess i won't try this. if i screw up my spv i don't have the money for a new one so......... i will stick with this one for a while Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Machineman Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Hi I tried it 2 days ago and it works perfect not so much you can do wrong. Just work very relaxed and work in the right order,..... and I got a big help from I don't know who in Holland he helped me via MSN to do this. I saved the conversation of that day for me to learn and NOT FORGET (that happens alot with me  ) I can post it for you I have a txt file of it. Dephaz.... if you read this THANX again M8 :) Jeroen
Guest broeren79 Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 You probably don't know me, but in short: i was the inspiration when mister Murphy came up with his law. I bet if i try this it will screw up my handset, and as a student i have learnt to stay away from any risks that involve costing me money.....
Guest Machineman Posted September 11, 2003 Report Posted September 11, 2003 Yep I know what you mean I was second in line :) Although I thought that there is a recovery possible if you screw up. It must be somewhere on the forum. And maybe you can ask Midnight to see if this is possible. Just send him an PM if you want to do the rom update. Has certanly some advances I can tell. Just ask him if he doesn't know he probably can send you to someone who knows. CU M8  Jeroen
