Tricking SPV to accept Smart Amazing Phone ROM update

Howdy all. We all know the Smart Amazing Phone and others such as E100 have a newer version of the software to the original Orange SPV, and contrary to unpopular belief DO have an SMS character counter (to activate it you need to type a digit in the Cc: line - great thinking Microsoft!).

The Smart Amazing Phone update is available from their web site but it checks the SPV's ID and doesn't like it.

I fixed that problem months ago when people were trying to put the English update back onto their Danish updated English SPVs! This was the fix then (taken from my fix at this site):

Don't forget to backup at least the ISPM first. Try this:

1) Attempt the update once. This will place a file in your SPV's Windows folder called DeviceData.txt

2) Close Setup when it fails and copy DeviceData.txt to your PC

3) Edit "DeviceData.txt" using Notepad and replace just the text ORG_DK with the text ORG_UK (you can leave the version number as is)

4) Set DeviceData.txt as "Read Only" by right-clicking and choosing "Properties" - IMPORTANT!

5) Copy it back to the SPV's Windows folder and agree to overwrite the

old file

Now run the update Setup again and it should be accepted. This is because the phone is unable to overwrite the DeviceData.txt file due to its read only status, and so it skips that step and just reads it. It then sees you have a ORG_UK phone, not DK (DenmarK), 'cause you tricked it you crafty bugger.

I think the problem with the Smart ROM update is the same - it's checking the SmartPhone WindowsDeviceData.txt file. Currently on mine this says ORG_UK, meaning the Smart installer knows I have an ORanGe UK model. What we need to know is what the DeviceData.txt file says on the Smart Amazing Phone. Anyone out there have one? If so please post the contents of that file back here so we can try and get it working. :)

Hi I am new to modaco and have just upgraded to the spv yesterday, so far very impressed with it.

So are you running the danish update ? does it give you the speedier interface of the e100.

This is probally a very stupid question but how do I backup files, whenever I try copying and pasting them with windows explorer is comes up with sharing violations? would appreciate any help on this..

Did you try SMT_USA ? (as I already replied on the newsgroup)

Sure did but no good as I replied on the other group :)

But don't worry, I've got the Swiss update now and have the SMS counter AT LAST ;) and it worked without any fuss, so I guess there's no point putting the Smart update on there now.

Ok, some more questions:

1) If I updated my Danish SPV would it be able to use danish letters (æøå), and danish T9 (are they the same?)

2) Will I be able to update back to the danish Orange updates without problems?

3) SAP is v1.50, and decerted, right?

4) Does the SAP have all the programs as the orange update?

5) What about that whole SAP Sim-lock thing? ... (I don't want my SPV locked to Smart as I can't even get it around here!!)

1, Only if the Smart ROM has danish

2, see the thread in the Articles section

3, yes

4, Has IA Album extra

5, It will be locked to your current network unless you have removed the SIM lock already.

Is it posible then to take the danish t9 dll file from my current Orange update and use it via the t9 config utility on the SAP?

Not sure TBH :? too in-depth for me, sorry I would not be able to say unless I tried it myself.

Ok, can someone then answer me if the SAP is able to show æøå... On my Danish SPV "æ" is the fourth letter on button 2 and"å" is the fifth. "ø" is the fourth on button 6.

PS: This might be a quite stupid question... But I would really like to know :)

As far as I am aware the SAP rom does NOT support danish character entry. I presume it's locale settings are the same as the mainland europe ones (i.e. supports US English, Italian, French and German). That's what the swiss spv update supports anyhow. The UK English update is slightly different and includes UK English and does not have Italian. I presume the Danish updates are similar in style, accomidating for Danish characters by removing some of the default European languages.

No, it is not possible to use T9 dll's off other smartphone rom's with a different rom since it is embedded in the ROM and I have not heard of anyone who has managed to get it working.

However, it is possible to use a different T9 language to the user interface language by editting the registry. There is an app avaliable by some german d00d which will do that for you.

Hope this helps

hi!

i do not know if the phone you are talking about is the same as my qtek 7070 but this one is can show and use the scandinavian letters. i have heard that it will be a norwegian t9 update in about one month. for now i have added the letter as my autotekst for sms and msn so i can use then there.

to do this see my answer on one of the others trhead on the software section.

Is this something you seriously want to do? If the ROM has any per-device settings, you could seriously break things.

Or is the ROM completely device independent?

I am using a UK Orange SPV, If i run the SAP update onto my phone am I likely to experience any problems, Has anyone tried? Does the T9 functionality still work?

Thanks for any help,

:)

I beleive thhat you run the upgrade once; It will fail but will place a file called deveicedata.txt on your phone, If you do a search on this site (Cant remember the thread) there are details on which part of the devicedata.txt needs to be edited...

I think it is under the posting "Which operators have upgrades that i can install"

Good luck;

EDIT 1: The instructions are on the previous page:

Enjoy :)
