Guest fozzie Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Any top tips where to go/what to do? I'll be there in 2 weeks time. :)
Guest ajb3000 Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 I'm 6'4". That pic was taken outside a weatherspoons bar in Play De Las Americas. You know me when it comes to behaving myself :). Fozzie, whereabouts are you going? Was anyone else from here at Tenerife South Airport at 1am this morning? Saw some guy with an SPV but didn't have the energy to talk to him, I literally just got home and have had next to no sleep all week. Also, the holiday was good except for one thing, some basterd robbed my hotel and my SPV cam and CD Player were nicked ;)
Guest Gorskar Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 :) I lost my SPV cam months ago - so damn small grr. Never mind, hopefully I'll get a new one along with my lovely new e100 fom winning the modaco competition!
Guest ajb3000 Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 oh yea, i also thrashed mono at a game of pool :)
Guest fozzie Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Fozzie, whereabouts are you going? I believe it's called the Beverly Hills Heights in Los Cristianos. Some friends of my fiancee have got an apartment there that they're not using so we're going for a week in August. Any useful info greatfully received, and it doesn't have to be limited to GPRS coverage, call charges etc :)
Guest ajb3000 Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Well I was staying in Playa De Las Americas which is the next resort along, i think it's only 5 or 6 euros away by taxi tho. One thing first, your fiancees friends don't live in manchester do they? I met some rather attractive girls who were staying at an apartment in Los Christianos which was owned by one of theire families, and they lived in Manchester. As for info, it depends what your interested in. There's a booze cruise you can go on for about €45, you have 3 hours on a $3,000,000 catamaran with a free bar. Most of the time you get to see dolphins and/or whales in the wild (we saw some whales), and they move into a bay and let you jump in and go for a swim. Great fun but be warned it's quite choppy and a lot of ppl were feeling rather sea sick by the end (alcohol may have been a factor). Theres also loads of watersports, we did parascending which cost €30, if you're a watersports person you can spend 4 hours doing parascending, jet skiing and two other things (can't remember what they are) for €100. If you want to go to a foam party, theres one on tuesdays and thursdays at the medieval castle (built of breeze blocks), which is superb, by the end the foam came up to just above my waste and im 6'4"! Free bar there aswell, can't remember the cost tho, think it was about €30 or something like that. Judge Jules also played there a couple of nights ago, but unfortunately I couldn't afford it as it was my last night there and money was lacking by then. For bars and clubs go to veronicas and starcos, a whole row of them, all free entry. Only thing is the PRs are desperate to get you into their bars (as they are paid with commission) and can be a pain, but do give good offers to get you in. Best Bars: Brannigans for drinking games and things like that, the DJ there is cool, Leonardos for entertainment most night, and they are slightly quiter with outdoor seating etc, and Weatherspoons are one of the cheapest in that area (€2.50 a drink). Restaurants, food is very cheap, I had a very nice 3 course meal at a mexican restaurant called Banana Gardens for €16, highly recommended restaurant but quite posh (although i went in shorts and t-shirt). Beaches, most are black sand due to it being a volcanic island, but there are some beaches with golden sand imported from the sahara if thats what you want, you'll have to look around for them. Theres a very good waterpark nearby, costs about €20 to get in, has hundreds of slides, pools, diving areas, and a dolphin show. All the water is salt water tho which was a shoke when i first jumped in. Also the ground is very rough and sore on the feet when walking around. It's nice and warm over there, averaged about 25C at night and about 31C during the day (according to the hundreds of big signs they have saying the temperauture), so take sun tan lotion and don't burn like i did, my shoulders blistered even tho i put lotion on, guess i didn't re-apply it often enough. If you want to go online, most amusent arcades have an 'internet cafe' area and it costs around €2 per hour. Phone info: GPRS worked on Movistar and Amena even tho Orange said it would only work on Movistar, also you can send txts from these two networks (didn't try Airtel) even tho their site says you can't, OCS say it costs 39p or 42p per SMS tho. There are lots of small shops selling camcorders and digi-cams at rediculously cheap prices (about 60% less than in the UK), not sure if they are legit or not, but they do look it, also the fact VAT over there is only 5% probably helps. I think thats it, anything else you wanna know just ask. Oh yea, try and keep out the way of police, while i was there i saw one police bloke hit this girl on the arm with a batton (looked like he broke her arm), then they all walked away and left her.
Guest fozzie Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 Cheers for all that info Adam. I'll digest it all over the weekend :) Sounds like you had a good time. The catamaran booze cruise sounds cool. Have you got any more info on it? We're looking at car hire at the moment. Do you thinks it's worth getting one? www.holidayautos.co.uk do a 2 seater econmy with a/c for £90 for the week - how does that sound? Is there much to do in Los C or do most people venture into Playa? My financee's friends don't live in Manchester - they're down here on the South Coast, so not the same people ;) Thanks. Fozzie
Guest ajb3000 Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 The booze cruise leaves from the harbour in Playa De Las Americas, we booked out tickets through our reps, which you won't, but you should be able to book it from somewhere at the harbour. It leaves the port and travels out to see for about 30mins, where it stops and hopefully you will see some dolphins or whales and they will tell you a bit about them, then it goes back towards land into a bay where it drops the anchor and they let you jump off the back of the boat and go for a swim. Then it goes back to the harbour. 3 hours in total and a completely free bar, although queues are long to begin with and as ppl start feeling sea sick they die down. It was great fun and it is worth it, just don't drink too much the night before. I did take some pics but haven't got the film developed yet. Car hire, it depends how much driving you want to do. I didn't have the option of renting a car as you need to be at least 21 (i'm 18). We had coach transfers from airport to hotel included, and either walked or got a taxi to most places (we didn't venture out of Playa much). Taxis are very reasonable and there are literally hundreds of them everywhere. There are also lots of excursions you can book and get taken by coach, but most of these were offered by our holiday reps, i'm sure you could get on them somehow if you wanted, just depends what you want to do. Be warned that the drivers are lunatics so if you do hire a car you need to have your wits about you. I never went to Los C so I wouldn't know what there is to do there, apparently theres a nice golf course there tho :. If you want bars and clubs then definately go to Playa, otherwise i'm not sure. I heard there is a bus from Los C to Playa for about 60 cents so it's not expensive to go from one to the other.
Guest Rob.P Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Not a busting lot to do in Los C, nice beach but Los A is only about 10min walk along the beach front, so better to walk down there in the evening. Los C has got some nice restuarants.
Guest ajb3000 Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 you definately should not trust this guy36RB0006.jpg
