Guest lostarts Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Hello, I am in the US and just bought an Orange SPV phone from Europe. It is running bootloader 0.93 and I would like to SIM unlock it so I can use it on AT&T GSM here in the states. I have run the spvunlock.exe program succesfully and got the SIM unlock code. The problem is that when I turn the phone back on, it says "Network Denied - Searching" and does not give a prompt to enter the SIM unlock code. The radio is turned on. Is there something else I need to be doing to get the unlock prompt? Thanks for yur help.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Welcome to the site :) It takes a while to get the prompt to enter the unlock code. What happens when you leave the phone powered up?
Guest lostarts Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Hmmm...I've only left the phone on for maybe 5 minutes after putting in a non-Orange SIM card. How long do you think it will take for the unlock prompt to appear? Is the "Network denied - searching" display normal? Perhaps I am being too impatient with my new toy! Thanks.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 5 minutes is more than enough time :?
Guest martin Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Usually inserting a foreign SIM is enough to give the prompt but maybe you have to successfully access a GSM network first :? As you are in the US, have you set the band to PCS in Programs-Settings-Telephony-Band Selection ?
Guest markd66 Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 "Network denied" usually means that the SIM card you are using has been blocked by the issuing network. I have an old Vodafone PAYG SIM that does this - but it's still ok for getting the phone to prompt for the unlock code. My personal experience is that the prompt for the SIM unlock code normally appears after 20-30 seconds - of course subjectively it feels longer :) - and before the prompt, the phone shows "No Service" martin's suggestion about band selection is a good one - another thought (albeit a little left-field) is whether or not the AT&T SIM and the IMEI of the phone that AT&T supplied are paired in some way, so you can only use that phone? Try another SIM, perhaps? Cheers, Mark.
Guest lostarts Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Hello all: Thanks for the repsonses. I changed the Band setting to PCS and now it works! Cheers!
