Guest prapoport Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Oh man, When trying to access http or wap pages, I get the message "ERROR - Unable to place call". I've done my best with reading all the posts that came up when searching for "GPRS T-Mobile" and I'm obviously missing something. Please help me. I'll try and make the post as detailed as possible; excuse me if it's jumbled. Here are the variations I've tried: Name: T-Zones Connects to: The Internet APN: internet2.voicestream.com all other blank I also tried internet3.voicestream.com Internet Connection: T-Zones Work Connection: None WAP Connection: T-zones Secure WAP: None I also tried using "automatic" instead of T-Zones ----- Then, Name: T-Zones WAP Connects to: The Internet Access Point: wap.voicestream.com I tried with all the other fields blank, and also with 216.155.165.50 for the primary and secondary DNS. Also tried using WAP as the user name. Then my Data Connections screen looked like this: Internet Connection: T-Zones WAP Work Connection: None WAP Connection: T-zones WAP Secure WAP: None ----- When I have the settings on "automatic", the phone just keeps trying to do something and never reaches a next step. I've noticed that there is no "G" next to the reception meter like there usually is when specifying which internet connection or wap connection to use. I've tried all these variations with "automatically detect settings" both ticked and unticked in IExplorer. I am in NYC and I have the T-Mobile unlimited plan. Can anyone give me some other ideas to try out? Any help is really, really appreciated.
Guest martin Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Hi prapoport First thing is to make sure that you have the top centre G displayed on the main screen which tells you that GPRS has been activated and that you are attached to the GPRS network. Everyone should have GPRS WAP by default but you may have to request GPRS WEB and MMS services from the network provider. Have a go at these settings and then test the WAP/Internet connections wsp://www.google.com/wml (WSP WAP) http://www.google.com/wml (HTTP WAP) http://www.modaco.com/mobile (HTTP WEB) T-Mobile USA GPRS CONNECTIONS: Description: T-Zones GPRS Connects to: The Internet Access Point: internet2.voicestream.com User Name: Password: Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50 Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.50 IP Address: Description: T-Zones WAP Connects to: The Internet Access Point: wap.voicestream.com User Name: Password: Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0 Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP Address: PROXY CONNECTIONS: Description:T-Zones WAP Proxy Connects From: The Internet Connects To: WAP Network Proxy (name:port): 216.155.165.50 Type: WAP User name: Password: Settings-Data Connections: Internet Connection: T-Zones GPRS WAP Connection: T-Zones WAP INTERNET EXPLORER > MENU > OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS: Tick 'automatically Detect Settings' MMS setup Settings-Data Connections - Edit GPRS connections Description : T-Zones MMS Connects to : MMS connection Access point: wap.voicestream.com Settings - Accessories - MMS setup First field: T-Zones MMS IP: 216.155.165.050 Port: 9201 Mmsc Address: : http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Guest prapoport Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 Thanks for the response. I changed all my settings to match yours exactly. I couldn't find "MMS" under the "Connects to" settings; all I had was Orange MMS, which I used. I still get "Error - Unable to place call" when I try to access any of the three addresses that you suggested (google wsp wap and http wap, and modaco). When I click on the favorite to try and connect, I see "Dialing..." in the top left corner. In the top right, I do get a small "G" next to my reception bars. Any other ideas? Thanks again, Phillip.
Guest martin Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 The settings should work :? Especially the Internet connection. 'Unable to place call' is usually an incorrect APN (Access Point Name) I wonder if T-mobile have changed the APN for unlimited GPRS. Dis you have this problem before moving to the unlimited access package ? I would recommend trying the SIM in another phone (with internet access) and if you continue to have the same problem then you know it is caused by T-mobile.
Guest prapoport Posted August 1, 2003 Report Posted August 1, 2003 Martin - Thanks very much for your help. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, it started working today (fully) with no new changes. Looks like it was T-Mobile's fault all along. Thanks again.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted August 2, 2003 Report Posted August 2, 2003 BTW, Martin: when I purchased my unlimited GPRS I couldn't get onto the internet. Then for the heck of it I changed my APN to internet3 and it worked. I called TMobile to make sure I was not being charged some extra costs for VPN access. They said that I was on the VPN...not to worry, they both work the same with the exception of the VPN access. They didn't know why I was put on Internet3 but they didnt see a need to change it. So...willy nilly...some T-Mobile users may be on 3 instead of 2...just an FYI.

Guest martin Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 Hi rhenzhen Are you subscribed to T-zones ot T-mobile Internet? I believe all the T-mobiles GPRS APN's are now internet connections and include mobile web access so you just need to find out which one is activated. Did you check what settings you had in the T610 ? For the SPV I would start be deleting all existing dialup, proxy and GPRS connections and then re-create the GPRS internet connection only and try it with APN wap.voicestream.com GPRS CONNECTIONS: Description: T-zones GPRS Connects to: The Internet Access Point: wap.voicestream.com User Name: GPRS Password: GPRS Primary DNS: 216.155.165.050 Secondary DNS: 0.0.0 IP Address: In data connections make 'Internet connection: T-zones GPRS' In internet explorer make 'Select network: The Internet'. If it fails then try it with APN's internet2.voicestream.com & internet3.voicestream.com

I followed what you've said and entered it again but still no luck!... I called T-Mo CS and they said they can't help me coz they don't support SVP/E100 phone. They don't have guidelines... The error massage I always get when Im trying to connect was "Unable to connect. Verify you have network coverage and try again."... If there's another way please help me... I would really appreciate it... Thanks in advance and take care!
Guest martin Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 Hmmm :? You would usually get this if the APN is incorrect. I assume that you get the centre G when your phone is switched on. Do you still have the T610 ? It might be worth checking what settings (APN, username, password) you have in that phone.

Im trying to check the GPRS setup of my t610 but i can't open it... the "edit" is disabled and there's no way to check what's the setting. sigh... anyway, thanks for your help! I really appreciate it.
Guest yoos Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 I know you said you have T-Zones, but that's the only thing I can really think of if it's not working (is that somehow on T-Mobiles side your T-Zones isn't active).... I have the same settings and it works... sorry
