Hi peeps - new to all this

need to know a few things that i have noticed in the past few days or if there is any s/w d/loads to use

1 - sent items - i am a heavy sms user and the folder is getting large - will this affect performance - and is there a way to delete all sent sms's at once? i like to have them put into the sent folder as sometimes the messages fail.

2 - the 'busy timer/clock' keeps appearing in the window and the phone pauses occasionally - the only way i can describe this is like the eggtimer feature in windows - is this normal and/or is there any way i can keep the functions smoooth?

3 - sms read receipts - i find this a very useful function (as i am a control freak probably) - is there any way to automate this feature without having to go through message options each message?

4 - unlocking software - whats this all about please? i have read certain articles and i'm very cautious - is there anyway i can damage my phone doing this and is it available for the new E100? if so - where is my best resource please?

5 - confused with GPRS vs WAP - apparently with my contract (orange) renewal i get open access for 12months - this is GRPS right?

6 - is it ok to keep my baby (e100) in the cradle (phone sync cradle) when i am at home or should i ONLY use it for charging and syncing?

umm think thats just about it - these might seem fairly simple questions to you - but you were in the same position once!!

i HAVE looked elsewhere for the answers to these questions so if i am cross posting please forgive me or point me to the right resource.

hopefully once i know a bit more about these things i'll be able to help others too

radio version 1.31.10

available storage 3.11MB

total storage 7.50MB

available memory 2.79MB

total memory 12.63MB

thanks - Phooey

It wont affect performance too much , as long as you dont install much on the phone, insted install everything on the SD card

To delete all your messages at once use a program called SMS Tools, the new version with 'send failed SMS' option is avalible to MoDaCo Plus members.

This is normal

No, not that i am aware of

Software Unlocking you phone is a way to install and run non signed applications. Beta Versions and personal developer applications.

have a look here, this will help you do it, its safe and wont break your phone! http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...ighlight=update

Not sure on the exact details of this, but its somthing to do wiht WAP through GPRS..... it think... ANYONE?

6 - is it ok to keep my baby (e100) in the cradle (phone sync cradle) when i am at home or should i ONLY use it for charging and syncing?

Safe to keep it in there mate.

Good luck mate!

1: check www.monolithix.org for smstools? (is it there still?) this can help you manage the inbox/send items

2: again monolithix.org for a task manager, the eggtimer seems to be related to the OS trying to kill background tasks? (again not 100%)

3: Not in Smartphone2002, hopefully there will be a fix soon.

4: 2 locks on phone, simlock (locks you to a network like orange). can be removed, but not as easy on an e100 as on the older spv's. Second is the application lock, removed safely and easily OTA by visiting the developers.orange.com.

5: check with service provider, most people seem agreed the open access is WAP only not GPRS.

6: YES

Read thru the articles threads, they will help you a bit..

Have fun

Will

You can use WAP over a GSM dialup connection (WAP connection=Orange CSD WAP) or WAP over a GPRS connection (WAP connection=Orange WAP). Both are free on Orange.

If you want to know what WAP can and can't do then goto Internet Explorer menu-options-connections and untick 'auto detect' and set 'Select Network=WAP network'. Using the PC, search the Internet for WAP directories which give a list of WAP sites to visit.

On the SPV you'll fail to access any sites that are not WAP compatible.

Use WSP:// in the address:

wsp://orange.multimedia.

WAP is very limited and you'll soon be pining for your Internet browser again.

(just tick 'auto detect settings' again to use both Internet and WAP connections)
