Guest Will Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 Purely hypothetical.. but I would be interested in the responses from developers. If a user has an SPV, and upgrades to an e-100 or similar, and he uses both of these devices together (it happens). my query: Is any purchased software; purchased for 1 phone or 1 user (any phones they own)? If it is for 1 phone, and some registrations are based on phone details, will vendors provide re-registration if you upgrade your phone? - obviously you would have to remove the application from the original phone first.... Any comments?/ flames/ abuse, please post below. Will
Guest fraser Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 The general rule for software licenses is one install only. However, I couldn't care less about that. They way I see it, as long as there is only one version being used at a time, then that should be OK.
Guest Gorskar Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 most software does not rely on any unique details for registation, so could easily be installed onto a replacement phone. Those that do usually use the email address that is registered on the phone, which would probably be the same on the new phone, so no problem there. Only a few titles use other info, so only a few would throw up problems from a technical point of view. From a legal point of view though I'm not sure. You can be fairly sure that its legal to install your software onto your new phone (you might have to remove it from your old phone though). If you use your old phone also then I'm not sure. To give an example, I believe Microsoft will allow you to install Office onto a Desktop and Laptop computer under 1 liscence, so long as they are not both used at the same time...
Guest MECX Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 well its like the windows Xp copy protection thing---if you phone up microsoft and say 'ive got a new pc and want to put my operating system on it' they will activate it again for you. it would be a bit of a swizz if you couldent tranfer it to your new device as you have pid for the software and expect to be able to use it. interesting point tho--i first for mobile phones :)
