Guest ClintEastman Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 MediaQ announced that its MQ1188 Multimedia Platform Controller is a key system component of MiTAC's new Windows powered Mio 8380 Smartphone. The Mio 8380 integrates Internet access, audiovisual media playback, digital camera, personal information management, and email into a mobile phone with a high-resolution (176x220) 64k-color (16 bit-per-pixel) 2.2-inch transflective TFT-LCD screen, which is large enough for browsing photographs or watching videos. The MQ1188 controller chip serves as a companion chip to the Mio 8380's 200MHz Intel XScale processor, and manages all of the multimedia and screen display functions of the device, MediaQ said. The MQ1188's built-in video processing and scaling engine enhances video playback, providing clear, realistic image quality, while at the same time helps reduce overall system power consumption and extend battery life. According to MediaQ, the 66MHz MQ1188 features a built-in 2D video acceleration engine along with a 64-bit wide internal bus to on-chip embedded memory that offers scalable bandwidth of up to 528MB/sec. The embedded memory provides storage for frame buffers and video buffers, eliminating the need to use energy-consuming system memory. In addition to multimedia and screen display functions, the MediaQ MQ1188 controller also provides the Mio 8380 Smartphone with a number of peripheral interfaces, including USB host/device controllers for data synch cradle, keyboard, and mouse, plus a 4-bit SD/SDIO controller for expansion using both memory cards and peripheral cards for functions such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS.
