SPV E100/UK 1.5ROM - Battery Life?

Have any SPV users who have upgraded to the SPV E100, noticed a reduction in battery life :?:

My mate has recently upgraded to the E100, and on Friday night, I copied the UK 1.5 Rom from his phone, on to my tanager (for experimental purposes :) )

He complained to me today, that the battery life isn't as good on the E100, and I have to say, since upgrading the ROM on mine, I've noticed quite a severe reduction :!:

It's early days, and could be just a coinidence, but I just wondered if anyone else has noticed this?

I'm sure that I've read somewhere about people on the SMART network (Phillipines?) who have Tanagers with 1.5xx ROMS complaining that battery life isn't as good.

I've had both and I think the E100 is marginally worse.

how long does the battery last on the original spv?

to give you an example - my e100 is only on 1 bar by the end of the day - i'm sure that can't be good

To be honest I think my e100's battery life is a bit better than the original.

Or rather, its lasted just as well, even though I have been messing around with it more and running more games, apps and playing more mp3s, now that I can do so properly!

For me, battery lasts about two "quiet" days or just one what I'd call moderate useage days (about 30mins of talktime)

Of course, you must remember Phooey that it all depends on how much you use/play with your phone....

Having just recieved my E100 in replacement for my 'old' SPV I am to of the opion that the battery life is not as good as the original SPV.

I am using it exactly the same as previously and wheras before I could just to say manage two days I am now having to charge every night. I charge it most nights anyway but you see the difference. On a heavy days usuage (watching an episode of south park on lunch) I can even get the battery screen of data death to appear! That never happened before.... well unless I had been particularly cruel.

One observation I will make, and please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems the back light has started coming on again when the phone is in its case/pocket. I remember this happened originally and then the ROM update stopped it so that that light only came on once unlocked. This saved acres of battery. Admittedly its only when you hit the first unlock button but that is quite often when being bumped about in my pocket.

Also does anyone know if the different screen will take a higher current?

Any tips anyone has for increasing the battery life on an E100 please let me know!

Incredibly I have a Nokia phone for work and in the 5 months I've had it, I've charged it about 4 times!

i play with mine quite a bit hax - thanks for asking!

seriously - i suppose one of my average usage days is about 20 text messages and a few minutes on the phone - so i guess thats failry much in keeping with what everyone else is getting - ie - not much!

I've said this kind of thing before after upgrading ROMS, and then retracted my initial comments  BUT here goes!

After a few days of crap battery life using the UK 1.5XX ROM, I downgraded last night, back to 1.3XX.

Today, my battery life has improved again drastically

Comparing two identical days of use/charging, today my phone reached 80% charge at 6.00pm, yesterday, (using 1.5 ROM) it reached 80% charge at 12.30pm  :?

My E100 seems to drink electricity a fair bit more than the SPV, but then again I use the E100 that much more now since texting doesn't dent my fingers.

I think my E100's battery life is worse than my old SPV's. I suspected it before I read this thread. I haven't done any proper testing but it definitely seems to decrease quicker.

I'm of the opinion that it's not the phone, it's the 1.5 ROM, if anyone with an E100 feels adventurous, try downgrading to 1.3XX, and I bet you get increased battery life  :?:

Isn't this the same problem that the original SPV had which the update addressed?

Yeah, but I think the E100 1.5 ROM has done something to make it worse again :?:

Yep, i'm definately there, and the Orange "Care" bloke rollocked me for charging the phone. It seems where not supposed to "top up" charge, but only charge when exhausted. Ahha ha ha.

Yep, my e100 is definitely worse, and i'm just hoping that it's the "conditioning" that is the problem, because after 8 hours in the office i'm down to 2 bars. i used to be able to last a couple of days, so it's noticably worse for me. And i'm in central london so no transmitters issues should be confusing things.

I think that the 1.5 update might be the issue, because 1.37 was a different world compared to what went before. However, i can't live without the sms counter, so suppose i'll stick it out :)

BTW: what happened to 1.5 on the SPV? is there a rom update yet?

Could i shoehorn e100's rom into it?

If you run the 1.37 "update" over the top of 1.5 (put it in Canary mode first) it leaves the SMS counter behind

I've done it, and as this is the only major noticeable advantage of 1.5, you get the best of both worlds doing this :)

I did this the following way, and it worked a treat :o but 'cos of the battery life issues I went back to the old ROM :!:

1) Get SPV, and using USBTerm, save IPSM on spare SD card.

2) Get E100 and put 0.91 Bootloader on it.

3) Using new bootloader on E100 "save all" to another SD card.

4) Put SD card with 1.5 ROM on it, in SPV and copy it across to SPV.

5) Using USBTerm, "restore IPSM" on SPV

You now have original SPV with all your settings/software etc. but with E100 ROM :P

Like I said before, if you then run the 1.37 update on top of 1.5, the SMS counter is still there :!:

Vijay - don't know what that guy at O was talking about, I am sure the SPV has a lithium ion battery and therefore doesn't matter how you charge it.

i know! tell me about it... and surely eveyone just plops there phone into the cradle willy nilly?

Sigh.

Simon: thanks for the info. Think i might not 1.5 the SPV right now, until the battery issue plays itself out i suppose.

But can you tell if the 1.37 gets the battery life back on track? ie with you Frankenstein-esque SPV, is battery life the same, but u now have sms counter?
