Guest Rusty Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I'm probably being stupendously thick, but i can't seem to work out how to add my contacts to Imov Messenger. I've set all my accounts up with usernames/passys, i've asked for a jabber which i log on with every time. But every time i try and add a contact, lets say for example [email protected] or an ICQ number or Yahoo username or whatever, it first asks me which service this person is using (options being: Jabber Service/Jabber Users Directory/Text Conferencing/MUC Conferencing/Service Connection Manager/MSN Gateway) Now with the exception of the MSN Gateway that i assume is used to add MSN contacts, how on earth do i add anybody else?
Guest Rusty Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Ok, i think i've sorted it now by connecting to a different jabber server that supports all the services i require. It has now added all my contacts for me, although they are silly long convoluted names, any idea how to edit the names so it doesn't show the full username? or in the case of ICQ, all i get is the number!!! don't have a clue who they are :)
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Been there *sigh* Unfortunately you cannot edit your contacts on iMov - what you have to do, is download JAJC (Just Another Jabber Client) - which is basically the same, just a desktop version. So iMov for your PC :) Log on to that, and edit all your contacts. When you log onto iMov next time, your contacts will appear like you edited them on your PC. JAJC actually isn't too shabby either, so you just might end up using it on your PC for every Instant Messaging Good luck!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 I use JAJC on my PC... We need to get mov to add rename functionality! P
Guest Rusty Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Cheers fellas, just one other thing, although i can connect to AIM it doesn't seem to transfer my contacts for me like the others do, is this how it should be??? (not that bothered as i only have 3 AIM contacts)
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 I dont remember if mine did. I only have 1 aim contact. but if u use the same server on JAJC and iMov it should get your contacts. Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 It should do, mine does. I find jabber.org.uk the best server... P
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 I had the same problem as the original post. I'll have to give iMov another shot...I tried 3 different times on two different phones without it working. Other than jabber.org are there any other servers I should try?
Guest Rusty Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Loads of servers to try encece, after i found out following a little searching. Check out the Jabber website, there is a FAQ on there that can point you in the direction of a list of servers, although i don't think this list is complete. Nevermind, i've found it for you :o the FAQ is here: Jabber FAQ The list of servers is here: Jabber servers Hope it helps. I'm currently using sucs.org as my server. For a retail piece of software, i find the lack of any form of 'getting started' documentation a little disappointing. There appears to be nothing whatsoever on the Mov website and to get myself sorted i had to resort to the jabber information. Fair enough they offer email support, but this as we all know can take time, at least basic documentation should be included with the download imho. You shouldn't have to do so much messing about to get new software working. Btw, thanx to all who posted with help :) and yes Paul, they need to get a rename facility in there pronto can't understand how it was overlooked  Regards Rusty Regards
Guest nikjensie Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 On another note, same program, tried to add a Yahoo ID with underscore in it... HOW DO YOU TYPE UNDERSCORE????!!!!!????? Nik
Guest nickcornaglia Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Hold down the # key to bring up the special characters list. :)
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Another jabber server that seems to work a treat is: jabber.dk Which is the one I have used since day one.
