hey all,

just got myself a Qtek 7070 and am using it on the Vodafone Australia network... (not sure how vodafone feel about that, as they don't sell them yet).

so here are a few features that i think would be nice:

* ability to change ring and message tones per profile

* integration between the contacts and the calendar so that when you enter someone's birthday in the contacts, it appears in the calendar

* a louder alarm - the current one is pretty pathetic

* Folders for sms's - so an sms can arrive in the inbox but then be saved into other folders that the user can create.

* server assigned name server addresses in data connections

* sms character counter (has been mentioned in other posts) and automatic linking of sms's for long messages

1, Edit I was thinking contacts not profiles

2, It does

3, Download a louder .wav

4, Agree

5, Newer updates 1.5 do have the character counter and the phone already does link long SMS

And Welcome to the site :) (day late I know )

1 - would be nice to be able to do both - with a ringtone set for a contact overriding the one set for a profile. I like the ability to choose a ringtone per profile for more granular control than phone-wide, but also like the idea of being able to change a ringtone for a particular contact, and maybe choosing an image per contact that would come up when they call (i know this is available in 3rd party software - would be nice if it was part of the OS)

2 - mine doesn't - i just added a b'day into a contact and checked calendar and it wasn't there. added someone's b'day (30 june 1980) and checked both 30 june 2003 and 30 june 1980 and it was not displaying on either of those dates

3 - okay, point taken - louder wav - got it... perhaps a separate control for alarm volume is a good idea ?

4 - sms folders are a must - the XDA has them - we want them too !!!

some new points...

1 - across the entire phone, the ability to choose all sound files from different locations, other than /ipsm/application data/sounds/* - for ringtones/message tones/alarm tones/etc. maybe allow mp3's to be used as well, although i'm not sure how the decompression will go on the spontonaity of a phone call.

2 - an 'insert word' option when in text T9 mode so that you don't need to go back into multipress mode. (similar to nokia)

3 - phone should return to home screen after ending a call that you've received with key lock on

4 - when placing a call using the predictive text lookup for the contacts, left/right on the joystick shouldn't affect the default, but rather the number for the contact that you wish to call at that time. I'm tempted to say that the only way to change the default number should be from the menus within the contacts application, but if we must shortkey it, then Left/Right within the contacts "application" should affect the default number.

5 - phone should remember that i have caller id set to "My contacts" and not return to "All contacts" at every available opportunity

that'll do for now :) thanks for the welcome (don't worry about the day late bit) - it's great to be here....

Agree 1-5 on the new selection :)

just checked - my version has the ability to use individual ringtones per contact...

well, more accurately, it lets you select them per contact, but it doesn't work.... (just tried it then - selected a different ring tone, got that person to call me, and it played my default sound...)

Hi MVH,

I am thinking about purchasing the Qtek 7070. However a salesman a Harvey Norman told me that the phone was exclusive to Optus at present and while voice calls can be made with sim-cards from other networks, data services like internet and email could not be accessed unless through Optus.

Could you please let me know about your experiences of using the phone on a non-Optus network. Any problems with voice and data services via Vodafone (I'm with Telstra). The phone didn't come sim or network locked did it? Where did you purchase yours from?

Thanks,

Victor

The phone will definitely work on Telstra and Vodafone. I've used GPRS on Telstra, and jenneth has used it on Vodafone and Optus. You just need to ring up Telstra Data Services and get them to activate GPRS. Then just use the settings from http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...elstra&start=45

Note though, Optus is SIGNIFICANTLY cheap than Telstra or Vodafone for GPRS - around 0.5c/kb (on the right plan) vs around 2c/kb...
